CAA

The CAA (Common Assessment Activity) exams are online tests that year 10 students sit. These tests cover basic reading, writing, and numeracy. 

You must pass each exam to get the credits. Once you gain the credits from a particular CAA, you do not attempt that CAA again. Writing is 5 credits, Reading is 5 credits, and Numeracy is 10 credits. To achieve NCEA Level 1, 2, or 3, you must pass the literacy (Reading and Writing) and numeracy CAAs at least once during your secondary school journey. 

It can sound stressful, but don't worry. The CAAs are first offered to students in Year 10; however, if you don't gain the credits in Year 10, you will have further opportunities to attempt the CAAs until you do gain the credits :)

If you're feeling like you need just a little extra academic support, we also have peer tutoring in place! This scheme is mainly for the senior students, but our volunteer peer tutors are more than happy to support the year 10s sitting the CAAs as well. To learn more about peer tutoring, click here.
