We at Silver Trail Elementary are currently using the National Geographic- Reach reading program, Lucy Calkins writing program and Words Their Way spelling program. These programs are designed to build your child’s knowledge in word skills, reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, and writing. We will also be reading several novels throughout the year.
There is a strong focus on reading and writing in Room 21. Your child will be doing both each day.
I use the Words Their Way spelling program for our spelling in Room 21. This program enables me to differentiate students lists based on their skills. Words Their Way addresses many different skills such as phonics, prefixes and suffixes, along with Greek and Latin word elements. On Wednesday
when students test on their words they will be required to not only spell the words correctly, but sort them according to the skill categories they have been working with. Each Wednesday
, students will test on their word sorts and then will also receive their new sort for the following week. Wednesday
students will bring home their new sort.
Currently, our math program is based on the Ready Math and the on line i-ready program, which is rooted in the Common Core Standards. We will be working hard at
learning our multiplication facts this
year!
