Location: Cox’s Bazar-4700, Bangladesh

Duration: One Day (13 January 2018)

Learning: During my visit to Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) on January 13, 2018, I gained valuable insights into the world of fiber optic submarine cable telecommunications. BSCCL serves as a prominent telecommunications service provider, operating as an International Internet Gateway (IIG) and Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Bangladesh. This experience deepened my understanding of the critical role played by undersea cables in connecting nations and facilitating global communication.

BRB Cable Industries LTD.

Location: BSCIC Industrial Estate, Kushtia-7000, Bangladesh.

Duration: One Day (09 February 2018)

Learning: During my day-long visit to BRB Cable Industries Ltd. on 09 February 2018, I had the opportunity to explore a leading manufacturer in the field of wires and cables. BRB Cable Industries, established in 1978, has a rich history of producing a wide range of high-quality cables and conductors, including PVC, XLPE, and FRLS cables, along with aluminum conductors and optical fiber cables. I learned about their innovative approach, including the introduction of advanced technologies such as Catenary Continuous Vulcanization (C.C.V) in Bangladesh. The company's commitment to quality is evident through its certifications from BSTI and CPRI, India's Central Power Research Institute. BRB Cable's extensive product line is trusted and utilized by major government and non-government organizations, making it a reputable name in the industry. They maintain a vast network of sales centers and a dedicated team to support customers nationwide. My visit to BRB Cable Industries was not only informative but also highlighted the company's dedication to excellence and its significant role in Bangladesh's infrastructure and telecommunications sectors.

Kaptai Hydropower Plant

Location: Kaptai, Rangamati District, Bangladesh

Duration: One Day Visite (10 January 2018)

Learning: During my day-long visit to the Kaptai hydropower plant in January 2018, I had the privilege of exploring this remarkable engineering marvel. Located on the Karnaphuli River in Rangamati District, Bangladesh, the Kaptai Dam stands as an earth-fill embankment dam, creating the vast Kaptai Lake with a water storage capacity of 6,477 million cubic meters. The primary objective of this project is to harness hydroelectric power, and it's notable for being the only hydroelectric power station in Bangladesh. Construction commenced in 1962, and the journey to its completion spanned several decades, with generators at the 230 MW Karnafuli Hydroelectric Power Station being commissioned from 1962 to 1988. My visit provided valuable insights into the significant role that this hydropower plant plays in meeting Bangladesh's energy needs and highlighted the impressive engineering achievements associated with it.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB)

Location: Botiaghata, Khulna

Duration: One Day (22 August 2017)

Learning: During my day-long visit to the PGCB (Power Grid Company of Bangladesh) plant in August 2017, I had the privilege of witnessing the critical role this organization plays in Bangladesh's power infrastructure. Established in 1996, PGCB has been at the forefront of expanding and managing the country's electricity transmission network system. The primary objective of PGCB is to ensure the effective management of the national power grid of Bangladesh. To achieve this goal, PGCB engages in a wide range of activities, from conducting feasibility studies and research to designing and constructing transmission lines and grid substations. They also handle the operation and maintenance of these crucial components, including the National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC). I was particularly impressed by PGCB's commitment to innovation, as evidenced by its internal communication network facilities comprising optical fiber. Their extensive network includes 400 kV, 230 kV, and 132 kV transmission lines, as well as various grid substations, all strategically positioned across the country. Furthermore, PGCB's connection with India through a 1000 MW 400 kV HVDC Back-to-Back station underscores their dedication to enhancing the national grid network. Hence, my visit to PGCB was an eye-opening experience, showcasing the organization's pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh's power sector and contributing to the realization of the nation's energy vision.
