“MAGBASA, MANGARAP MAGDIWANG”
KTLA LIBRARY |January 20-24, 2025
National Book Week, celebrated annually from November 24 to 30, was established under Proclamations Nos. 109 (1936) and 837 (1991), as Library and Information Services Month.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, instead of celebrating it in November, the KTLA Library celebrated the 90th National Book Week Celebration on January 20 - 24, 2025, with the theme “Magbasa, Mangarap, Magdiwang” a series of engaging activities. It was a spontaneous, fun, engaging activity to cultivate a love for reading.
The event offered a wide range of activities, starting with the Book Picnic, where students from preschool to high school had the opportunity to explore a variety of books and share their discoveries with friends. During this activity, librarians emphasized the importance of reading, sparking an early love for literature among our young learners. A captivating storytelling session also took place, igniting the imaginations of students.
A vibrant and creative bookmark-making activity empowered students to express their artistic talents, showcasing their creativity through colorful designs. To foster critical thinking and advocacy, an essay writing contest and advocacy video competition centered on the "Piliin Magbasa, Piliin ang Pilipinas" theme. These activities encouraged students to reflect on the significance of reading and its role in nation-building, empowering them to become voices of change for a brighter future.
The event concluded with a meaningful outreach activity in collaboration with the KTLA SGO officers, their adviser, Mr. Marlon Bromacom, and Mrs. Catherine Espiritu at the Brgy. Anib Daycare Center. This partnership opens students and community leaders to unite, bringing joy and educational resources to the children at the daycare center. Through this collaboration, we fostered a sense of community and service while promoting the value of giving and reading to uplift lives. The outreach strengthened bonds within the community and reinforced the importance of giving back and supporting one another in creating a brighter, more literate future for all.
“CELEBRATION OF LOVE IN ALL ITS FORM”
KTLA LIBRARY |February 14-27, 2025
The KTLA Library transformed into a vibrant hub of love and creativity, drawing book lovers together to celebrate Love Month in all its forms. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students engaged in various activities to spark joy and connection. One of the most anticipated events was Blind Date with a Book. This unique activity allowed students to "date" a mystery book based on their preferences. Wrapped in plain paper, each book carried a brief description or hint to pique curiosity, encouraging students to choose a book they might not have picked up. The thrill of not knowing exactly what they would get added an element of surprise, and the excitement of discovering a new story was palpable. After finishing the book, the student got the chance to rate their date and leave a short message about their date. Would they recommend this book to a friend? Definitely yes! So it's a match!
On the other side of the library, the Seed of Love Wall blossomed with heartfelt messages. Students wrote self-love, kindness, and friendship, posting them on the wall in an interactive display that allowed anyone to contribute. The messages ranged from simple "I love reading" notes to thoughtful reflections on self-love, confession, hope, and connection. As the wall filled up with words of positivity, it became a beautiful symbol of the diverse ways in which love can manifest, whether in relationships, passions, or self-love.
The Take What You Need affirmation wall activity encouraged students to pause, reflect, and select an affirmation that resonated with them. Positive, uplifting messages ranged from "You are enough" to "I am proud of how far I’ve come." Students could take one for themselves, carrying the reminder. The wall became a place of comfort and empowerment, where each person could leave with a little boost of positivity, knowing they were part of a collective celebration of love and encouragement.
Another activity, the “Test Your Love Language”, allows students to explore how they give and receive love. Based on the well-known concept of the five love languages—words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch—this activity invited participants to take a fun and insightful quiz to uncover their primary love language. After discovering their results, students share their findings with friends, sparking conversations about how understanding love languages can improve relationships and foster deeper connections. It was a perfect blend of self-discovery and bonding, offering valuable insights into how they connect with others.
Together, these activities created a warm, welcoming space at the KTLA Library where students could explore love through literature, personal expression, and meaningful connections. The Love Month celebration wasn’t just about romantic love—it was about recognizing that love can enrich lives, from the stories we read to the bonds we share with others. Whether engaging in Blind Date with a Book, posting messages on the Seed of Love Wall, taking affirmations from the Take What You Need wall, or discovering their Love Language, students were encouraged to embrace and celebrate love in all its forms. The library, filled with books, uplifting messages, and interactive experiences, became a testament to how love, in its many expressions, can bring people together and foster a sense of community.
