Lamar Hunt Jr. was born to Lamar and Rosemary Hunt. He attended a private school in Dallas, Texas and played football, basketball, track, and tennis. Although he was the grandson of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt, he grew up in a modest neighborhood playing with friends. He spent much of his time with family.
After graduating college, Lamar performed with the Kansas City Symphony for nine seasons. He owns the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Mavericks, and Kansas City Wizards. Hunt was also the founder of two theme parks in Kansas City: Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. The two parks were an outgrowth and adjoined a vast industrial park he developed in the bluffs above the Missouri River in Clay County called the Sub Tropolis.
In addition to founding and owning the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Hunt also founded the Kansas City Mavericks ice hockey team and the Kansas City Wizards soccer team and owned two other MLS teams, FC Dallas and the Columbus Crew. He has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He coined the phrase Super Bowl from his children's super ball.
Lamar Hunt Jr. has been involved in the church throughout his life and sees his faith as something that continues to grow and unfold. In 2003 he graduated with a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. He works frequently with troubled teens, the homeless, and individuals struggling with substance abuse in both hospitals and residential settings. Lamar Hunt Jr. is a dedicated family man who enjoys spending time with his wife, children, stepchildren, and grandchildren.
