Managing Stress

Tips for taking care of your mental health during COVID-19

  1. Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to social media and news stories about COVID-19. It's okay to stay informed, but overexposing ourselves to too much information can be stressful and overwhelming.

  2. Make sure you are taking care of your body. Getting enough sleep, eating health, and making sure we are still moving around can help us take care of our mental health. Some idea include: mindfulness, getting fresh air and sunlight, taking a walk, make a healthy recipe.

  3. Make time to connect with others living in your home or that you are able to see. Video call or call family and friends that you are not able to see in person.

  4. Practice hobbies and activities you enjoy. It's important to stay on top of your school work, but fun and enjoyment are also factors that promote positive mental health.

The Mayo Clinic has a free, month-long, self-guided virtual program that helps participants improve their mental well-being through daily journaling. You are able to complete the program on your own, but are guided to complete three tasks each day --writing down what you are thankful for, being deliberately kind to someone, and finding time to be mindful through out day. There is even a hashtag if you would like to post on social media about your journey #discovergratitude. Click the link above to get started!
