ASB

The Instrumental Department ASB (Associated Student Body) typically refers to the student-led organization within a school's instrumental music department — such as a band, orchestra, or other music ensembles. Its function is to support and manage the non-instructional aspects of the instrumental music program.

Key Functions of an Instrumental Department ASB:

Financial Management:
- Oversee fundraising activities
- Manage budgets and expenditures
- Ensure compliance with school and district financial policies
Event Planning & Support:
- Organize concerts, trips, festivals, and competitions
- Coordinate volunteers and logistics (e.g., transportation, uniforms)
Student Leadership & Representation:

Instrumental ASB Leadership Roles

1. President

Oversees all ASB operations within the department

Coordinates closely with the band/orchestra director
Represents the department in school-wide ASB meetings

2. Vice President

Assists the President and steps in when they're absent
Oversees committees or specific events (e.g., trips or fundraising)
Helps manage internal communications

3. Secretary

Takes notes during meetings (minutes)
Keeps records of decisions and action plans
Helps organize files (e.g., contact lists, permission slips)

4. Treasurer

Manages the budget and tracks all financial activity
Works with the school bookkeeper on ASB accounts
Helps organize and oversee fundraising efforts

5. Social Media Team

Promotes events via posters, announcements, and social media
Coordinates with yearbook or school media for coverage
Designs promotional materials for concerts and fundraisers

7. Section or Ensemble Representatives

Act as liaisons for specific groups (e.g., woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings)
Bring forward concerns or suggestions from their peers
Help organize sectional events or rehearsals

8. Librarian

Organizes and maintains the department’s sheet music library
Distributes, collects, and files music for rehearsals and performances
Assists the director with music preparation (e.g., numbering parts, making copies)
Keeps an inventory of scores and ensures damaged/lost parts are replaced
May help manage digital sheet music libraries if applicable

Hi! My name is Grace, and I’m the high brass section leader and the instrumental ASB vice president for the 25-26 school year! I am a senior next year, and I’m so excited to spend my last year at Kamiakin with the band program. I play Mello in the marching band, although I also play trumpet, piano, viola, and French horn in other ensembles at Kamiakin and CBC. I love marching band and am so happy to see what this new year brings!

Greetings, dear reader! My name is Evelynn Darling. I am the Drumline Captain and Secretary for the Kamiakin Instrumental department. I specialize in percussion and the viola. I am in many ensembles, such as Marching Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra! I have also helped bring Kamiakin's rendition of Shrek: The Musical to life by being a member of the pit. I am here to ensure that you have a wonderful time here in the instrumental department. Yo! I'm Gabi, and I'm your Band Representative (AKA the Band's human mascot) for this 2025-26 school year. I play the flute and the piccolo in Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Marching Band. Rosalie Nguyen

Hi, I’m Rosalie, the orchestra representative for the 2025-2026 school year. I’ve been playing the violin since I was five, and currently studying under Meredith Arksey. I perform in Kamiakin’s String Ensemble as well as Symphony Orchestra. Outside of school, I’m in the Mid-Columbia Youth Symphony as a first violinist, as well as participate in multiple competitions. I’ve performed for the NAfME 2025 All-Northwest Orchestra.

Music is something that makes me feel what I’ve never felt before. What I hope to achieve, is to share that feeling with everyone else.

Hello, my name is Kenji Rawlins I am a senior this year. I play percussion and bass. As a side hobby I am learning bagpipes. I enjoy the outdoors and spending free time doing scouting activities. The weirdest ice cream I’ve found is purple yam and cheddar ice cream. I love making and spending time with friends in are kamiakin bands.

Hi, my name is Avarie Larsen, and I am the head of the social media team! I have been playing the violin for ten years, and I am involved in the Kamiakin Symphony Orchestra and String Ensemble. I also am on the Kamiakin cheer team, and I participate in the Tri-City Youth Choir's high school show choir. Music has always been a huge staple in my life, I love singing, dancing, playing the violin, and performing. I'm always up for a run to Taco Bell, and I love to read.
