Language deprivation in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students is a critical concern that can result in lifelong language delays, a challenge further exacerbated by the pandemic. In response, KSD Outreach established a team of Language Deprivation and Intervention Program (LDIP) consultants to provide technical support to districts and families of children entering school with significant language gaps. Early and appropriate interventions are essential in mitigating the long-term impact of language deprivation, helping students build a strong foundation for communication and learning.
Due to the success and positive impact of LDIP supports, what began as a temporary initiative has evolved into a permanent program within KSD Outreach’s technical assistance services. This ongoing commitment ensures that more DHH students receive the critical language support they need to thrive academically and beyond.
