What is Canvas?
With Canvas, students are able to access learning resources, complete assignments, and communicate 1:1 with their teacher. ʻOhana can also use the Canvas Parent App to view learning resources, track assignment completion, and communicate with their child's teacher.
How can parents use Canvas?
A Parent/Guardian can be an OBSERVER in Canvas. With your observer account, you can view each of your child's classes in Canvas and support your child with tracking due dates and assignment feedback.
Canvas Observers are able to view:
Course home page - The Course Home Page will include a brief introduction to the course, contact information for the kumu, and links to assignments and course resources.
Announcements - Your child's kumu will send out announcements for upcoming assignments and activities in class. As an observer, you can receive a copy of each announcement in your email inbox.
Syllabus - The course syllabus includes a detailed description of the objectives, policies, and activities in the class.
Calendar - The Canvas Calendar is a helpful tool to view and track all current assignments and due dates in one place.
Modules & Assignments - The Modules page is where your child's kumu will share resources and online assignments. Your child will also visit this page to submit assignments online.
Scores & Recent Feedback - As an observer, you can receive notifications for recent assignment scores and feedback. These scores and feedback are for Canvas assignments only. Please continue to check KS Connect for the most current course grades.
Inbox - Canvas includes a built-in Inbox tool that you can use to communicate with your child's kumu.
Canvas 'Ohana Training
Please complete the Canvas LMS ʻOhana Training below to learn about Canvas and set up your Parent/Guardian Observer Account to connect with your child's Canvas account.
How do I set up my Canvas observer account?
An observer account allows parents/guardians to view your keiki's course information without being able to participate in the course.
Your keiki will need to provide you with a pairing code (see instructions in the next section) that will link your account to your keiki's courses. This unique code is valid for 7 days from the day the code is generated or after one use. A code will need to be generated for each parent observer. Check out this video on how to create your Canvas observer account before locating your keiki's pairing code.
Where do I find my keiki's pairing code?
The student pairing code is found in your keiki's Canvas account. Watch the video tutorial below to find the pairing code.
