Ke Ala I Ka Palapala Laepua - Pathway to Bachelor’s is a unique post-secondary program of Arizona State University (ASU) and Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi for the haumāna of Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi. In support for personalized pathways of our haumāna, Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi values education to and through graduation from high school towards a college degree. Ke Ala I Ka Palapala Laepua will allow haumāna pursue their individual passion, increase preparedness for post-secondary education, seek additional career opportunities, extend network opportunities, boost one’s confidence, and improve interpersonal skills in a college/university setting.

Ke Ala I Ka Palapala Laepua - Pathway to Bachelor’s offers tailored academy pathways for Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi haumāna, aligning with their interests and goals. Upon completion, haumāna can graduate with an impressive 60 college credits, potentially covering two years of post-high coursework. This not only reduces post-high school costs but also enhances academic readiness and prepares them for academic success. Ke Ala I Ka Palapala Laepua provides an opportunity for individualized education while preparing haumāna for a more efficient and successful academic journey.
The Career Foundations Certificates provide an opportunity to gain industry-recognized credentials in high-demand fields. These certificates allow you to explore different career options while earning college credits that can be applied toward more advanced academic pathways.

These certificates are ideal for haumāna who want to explore different careers, build skills for the future, or simply get started with college-level coursework without committing to a larger program.
If you're looking to dive deeper and commit to a more comprehensive program, Ke Ala I Ka Palapala Laepua (KAKPL) offers four academic pathways that lead to significant college credit—up to 60 credits, which is equivalent to two years of college. By pursuing a full KAKPL Pathway, you'll develop a solid academic foundation in your chosen field, and reduce the cost and time needed to earn your college degree.
Key Pathways:
Business Pathway: Focus on business management, entrepreneurship, marketing, and leadership.
Health Pathway: Build a foundation in health innovation, biology, and public health.
Sciences Pathway: Explore courses in sustainability, environmental science, and engineering.
Visual & Performing Arts Pathway: Engage in artistic disciplines such as theater, digital arts, and creative industries.
Completing the 60 units required for the Ke Ala I Ka Palapala Laepua - Pathway to Bachelor requires course enrollment during the summer, fall, and spring semesters. Specific plans differ based on your selected pathway. Please discuss your potential path with your grade counselor and Dean of Studies, Mr. Isaac Vigilla.
ASU ULC courses are offered in different sessions:
Session A (First 8 weeks)
Session B (Last 8 weeks)
Session C (Full 16 weeks)
Self-Paced or On Demand (Any time, ideally 8-16 weeks)
Self-Paced courses must be completed by the end of Session B/C to be counted into KS transcript and paid for by KS.
Kaunaloa-ASU Study Hall students must have at least FULL-TIME Kaunaloa enrollment the entire semester:
One Session A course + one Session B course (2 courses total)
One Session C course
One Self Paced course
Students enrolled in multiple concurrent ASU courses are considered OVER-TIME and may be eligible for two study hall periods.
Requires approval from their counselor and Dean of Studies, Mr. Isaac Keoua Vigilla.
If you do not have a Kaunaloa-ASU Study Hall period, you may have PART-TIME Kaunaloa enrollment:
At least one Session A, B, C, or Self Paced course.
Students may enroll in more than one course with approval from their counselor and Dean of Studies, Mr. Isaac Keoua Vigilla.
SUBMIT Kaunaloa Interest Form to be added to the Kaunaloa Canvas Course
COMPLETE Modules 1 and 2 on the Kaunaloa Canvas Course
MEET with your parent or guardian to discuss interest in a Kaunaloa and complete the Student & Parent Agreement.
MEET with your kūkoa Kumu to discuss interest in a Kaunaloa and complete Kūkoa kumu recommendation.
MEET with your grade counselor to discuss interest in a Kaunaloa-ASU college course, confirm eligibility, and sign Counselor Recommendation:
Grades 10, 11, or 12 AND
Cumulative GPA of 3.2 and above (3.5 and above for Kaunaloa Study Hall period)
DECIDE one of the following options:
PART-TIME: Continue with your KS course schedule with addition of a Kaunaloa-ASU college course
May add one or two Session A or B. Does NOT need to be enrolled for entire semester.
FULL-TIME: Request for a Kaunaloa-ASU Study Hall Period replacing an elective course.
MUST be registered in Kaunaloa-ASU course(s) for entire semester (A+B or C or Self Paced)
OVER-TIME: Request for TWO Kaunaloa-ASU Study Hall Periods replacing two elective courses.
MUST be registered in MULTIPLE CONCURRENT Kaunaloa-ASU course(s) for entire semester (A+B or C or Self Paced)
SELECT students ONLY (must have already completed KS high school degree requirements)

Juniors: Cumulative GPA of 3.2+
Sophomores and Freshmen: Cumulative GPA of 3.2+, counselor review, and credit approval
New Kaunaloa students must submit required forms to HS Admin Building:
