Enviroschools Journey @ Kristin

Our vision statement...

Sustainability at Kristin School means taking care of ourselves, our communities and our environment, now and for our future generations.

Nau mai, haere mai - "He waka eke noa"

"We are all in this waka together" Welcome! This website is a collection of the DEVELOPMENTS and PROGRESS we have all made together on our Enviroschools journey. Students and staff have contributed their stories and projects for you to see - to help us see the waters we have traversed...

We have not reached our destination, but we have seen growth and our people have made positive changes, helping to make Kristin a more sustainable school - we can be proud of those achievements - we are doing the mahi.....

Take the time to explore our Journey - from Bronze to Silver and now we reflect at Green Gold... it is a special time for reflection and celebration of the efforts we have made... the connections we build... the Kaitakitanga we value.

Kristin's student led Sustainability Website

The Council of Sustainability website is an informative platform run by students. It is used by Kristin students, teachers and the wider community to educate you on sustainability and keep you updated on what projects the council is currently doing. It is managed by a few knowledgeable students in the council on a source called Wix (soon to change over to Webflow). It adds value to the Kristin community through discussing, monitoring and engaging in topics such as; our carbon footprint, sustainability reports and our highly informative weekly blogs. Join the race to make the world a better place! - By Cara Wallace - Yr 9 CoS member.

This website is found on the Kristin Portal - under Our School tab

What is the Council of Sustainability?

In 2022 the Council of Sustainability made a video to share with the wider community, to ensure everyone at Kristin knew what they did and how they supported sustainable actions.

2021 KNZB Sustainable School Finalist...

The 2021 Keep New Zealand Beautiful Award finalists were announced in October and Kristin was one of three schools selected for the Most Sustainable School award. Our Tread Lightly campaign, raising funds for solar panels and water tanks, really highlighted our wider whanau commitment to sustainability and the value it has at the Board level. We couldn't have done it without the support of our amazing Kristin community, that donated the funds for the solar panels and water tanks. Our staff and students are committed to our Green Gold Enviroschool journey and every year we find new ways to reduce waste, protect the environment and support communities in need. While we were not the overall winner, we were energised by the nomination! - Written by Sarah Wakeford - Service Learning Coordinator.
