Dance Theatre
Dance Theatre
As artist Dominic Moore-Dunson says "Kids are ready for these conversations so long as adults prepare them to be in a difficult space." Dance theatre is a way adults can ignite or continue some of life's most difficult conversations with children.
A "Dance Theatre" production will tell a story both through the movements of the dancers but their connections with each other and emotional expressions. This may include text, dialog, or voice over, but it may also be done in silence. Many dance companies use Dance Theatre to tell stories like Inlet Dance Theatre, Muntu Dance Theatre, and many more. Improvisation
Improvisation
When asked, Google AI described dance improvisation as "the spontaneous creation of movement, where dancers explore and generate movement without pre-determined choreography. Often times dancers and choreographers use improvisation to help generate new movement ideas, find new possibilities, and develop ideas or feelings they have about a piece. The magic of improvisation is that it is not filtered by the artists own inhibitions or creative habits.
Improvisational dance can be used to create choreography, be woven into choreography, or be performed on it's own.
Modern/Contemporary Dance

Modern Dance is a fluid, versatile, and ever changing style of dance. It blends elements of lyrical, jazz, ballet, and improvisation. Modern Dance deviates from these other styles in it's use of grounded movement and floorwork. Contemporary dance, similar to modern is always evolving. It typically incorporates more clear and sharp movement whereas modern often is more blended and elongated in it's movement. Ballet and modern also both have codified techniques. Contemporary Dance gives freedom to blend multiple forms of dance and utilize personal choices and stylistic preferences. Both styles often use new or "modern" movement trends and styles. Contemporary even looks different through time as dance trends develop.

Social Dance is as old as humanity. Social Dance's primary purpose is to aide in social interaction and enjoyment. These exist in ceremony, celebration, religion, art, and most recently in media and social media. The Merriam-Webster definition for kids explains jazz music well, calling it "American music marked by livery rhythms with unusual accents and often by melodies made up by musicians as they play." Jazz music uses a variety of instruments but is often recognized for its use of piano's and horn instruments. Jazz music was started in African American communities in the United States in the late 1800's. This music style is explorative and expressive.

Projections are images or videos projected onto a screen, set, or the stage itself during a live performance. Projections are used for many purposes including telling parts of the story, creating illusions, creating setting/scenery, adding to visual spectacle, and more.

Story Writing or Narrative Writing is a method of writing that uses narration to unfold a series of events with an inciting incident, rising action, a climax, and resolution. This can be both fictional or non-fiction writing.

Illustration is the images made to assist in storytelling. Children's books often use illustration to give life to a story and help children visual and understand what is happening. Illustration can also tell parts of a story, foreshadow, give background information, or support themes and metaphors.
