ATC1O1 - Grade 9 Dance (Open)
This course gives students the opportunity to explore their technical and compositional skills by applying the elements of dance and the tools of composition in a variety of performance situations. Students will generate movement through structured and unstructured improvisation, demonstrate an understanding of safe practices with regard to themselves and others in the dance environment, and identify the function and significance of dance within the global community.
ATC2O1 - Grade 10 Dance (Open)
This course emphasizes the development of students’ technique and creative skills relating to the elements of dance and the tools of composition in a variety of performance situations. Students will identify responsible personal and interpersonal practices related to dance processes and production, and will apply technologies and techniques throughout the process of creation to develop artistic scope in the dance arts.
ATC3M1 - Grade 11 Dance (Mixed)
This course emphasizes the development of students’ artistry, improvisational and compositional skills, and technical proficiency in dance genres from around the world. Students will apply dance elements, techniques, and tools in a variety of ways, including performance situations; describe and model responsible practices related to the dance environment; and reflect on how the study of dance affects personal and artistic development.
ATC4M1 - Grade 12 Dance (Mixed)
This course emphasizes the development of students’ technical proficiency, fluency in the language of movement in dance genres from around the world, and understanding of dance science. Students will explain the social, cultural, and historical contexts of dance; apply the creative process through the art of dance in a variety of ways; and exhibit an understanding of the purpose and possibilities of continuing engagement in the arts as a lifelong learner.

ATD4M1 - Grade 12 Dance Competition (Mixed)
This course emphasizes the composition and analysis of dance choreography. Students will be expected to participate in the year end production and produce two major compositions, which will be performed in this production. Students will continue to acquire increasingly difficult technical skills, will assume leadership within the program, will analyze and evaluate performances and study the historical aspects of dance in Canada.

ADA2O1 - Grade 10 (Open)
This course provides opportunities for students to explore dramatic forms, conventions, and techniques. Students will explore a variety of dramatic sources from various cultures and representing a range of genres. Students will use the elements of drama in creating and communicating through dramatic works. Students will assume responsibility for decisions made in the creative and collaborative processes and will reflect on their experiences.
ADA3O1 - Grade 11 (Open)
This course requires students to engage in dramatic processes and the presentation of dramatic works, and emphasizes the application of drama skills in other contexts and opportunities. Students will interpret and present works in a variety of dramatic forms, create and script original works, and critically analyze the processes involved in producing drama works. Students will develop a variety of skills related to collaboration and the presentation of drama works.
ADA4M1 - Grade 12 (Mixed)
This course requires students to experiment individually and collaboratively with forms and conventions of both drama and theatre from various cultures and time periods. Students will interpret dramatic literature and other texts and media sources while learning about various theories of directing and acting. Students will examine the significance of dramatic arts in various cultures, and will analyze how the knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their personal skills, social awareness, and goals beyond secondary school.

AME1O1 - Grade 9 Rock band (Open)
This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop their understanding of musical conventions, practices, and terminology and apply the elements of music in a range of activities. They will also explore the function of music in society with reference to ones self, communities, and cultures. Each student will learn to perform on both percussion instruments and those found in a typical rock band (guitar, bass, and drums).
NOTE: This is a beginner course where students learn all instruments in a drumline and rock band at a beginning level. Instruments are provided.
AM11O1 - Grade 9 Instrumental (Open)
This course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen with understanding. They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use.
AM12O1 - Grade 10 Instrumental (Open)
This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities, listening perceptively and analyzing Medieval, Baroque and contemporary music as well as music videos. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.
AM13M1- Grade 11 Instrumental (Open)
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyze and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities.
AM14M1- Grade 12 Instrumental (Open)
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period and the twentieth century, including art music, jazz, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently. They will also complete complex creative projects.
AMM3O1 - Grade 11 Music & Computers (Open) (NEW)
This is a course designed for students who wish to explore the use of computers in contemporary music. Students will have the hands-on experience of using computers and music technology for creative exploration, composition, and performance.
Performance on a specific instrument will not be a focus in the course, however basic keyboarding skills will be taught. It is recommended that students do have some experience with a musical instrument but it is not required.
The broader scheme of the course involves a wide variety of musical disciplines with creation at its focus. Project based assignments will make up a large part of the course material, therefore giving students the opportunity to work in roles that suit their comfort levels and individual needs.
ASM2O1 - Grade 1O Photography (Open)
This course is an introduction to photography with an emphasis on traditional black & white film. Students become skilled with film development and darkroom printing. Students will also gain a strong foundation in image making and analysis. Photography students explore digital techniques including DSLR shooting and PhotoShop post production. Masters of photography from the 19th and 20th centuries will be examined in order to influence the thematic possibilities of the medium.
ASM3M1 - Grade 11 Photography (Mixed)

This course is designed for students with a photography background willing to expand their modes of working with the medium. Specialized projects allow individual students to explore a contemporary issue of their choosing throughout the course. Digital and analog techniques will be used to varying degrees depending on the interests of each student. Preparing and posting work in online environments prepares students to promote their work to a wider audience. Students in this course compile a portfolio of projects which they may use to apply to post-secondary programs in photography, film, design or related fields. Looking at and understanding the work of artists and photographers helps drive the direction you take with your photographs in this course.
AVI1O1 - Grade 9 Visual Art (Open)
Learn to draw, paint, sculpt, and talk about art! This course allows you to try a little bit of everything, developing technical skills and learning to apply creative solutions to your art projects and hopefully to everything else in your life, both at home and at school! NAC1O1 - Grade 9 Expressing Aboriginal Cultures (Open)
This course explores various arts disciplines (dance, drama, installation and performance art, media arts, music, storytelling, utilitarian or functional art, visual arts), giving students the opportunity to create, modify, present, and analyze art works, including integrated art works/productions, that explore or reflect First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and cultures. Students will examine the interconnected relationships between art forms and individual and cultural identities, histories, values, protocols, and ways of knowing and being. They will demonstrate innovation as they learn and apply art-related concepts, methods, and conventions, and acquire skills that are transferable beyond the classroom. Students will use the creative process and responsible practices to explore solutions to creative arts challenges.

Grade 12 Art students begin to develop portfolio quality drawings and paintings! Work in larger scale with a wider range of techniques, produce a series, and develop conceptual themes in your body of work. We look at the old masters, like da Vinci and Rembrandt, from medieval through the Renaissance and discuss how they compare to contemporary artists.

AWC3M1 - Grade 11 Pottery (Mixed)
Grade 11 pottery explores more advanced techniques in working with clay, allows students to refine skills and try their hand at the potters’ wheel. Personal expression is encouraged, and unique practices such as Raku Pottery are explored.

This course introduces the student to the study of vocal music. Methods of tone production, warm-up and sight singing will accompany the repertoire studies in class. Performance will be emphasized and no previous experiences in necessary.
AMV2O1 - Grade 10 Vocal Music (Open)
This course emphasizes performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history. This course is designed for students who wish to study music through singing, emphasizing the fundamentals of good singing through breathing, voice production, diction and ear training (participation in the Concert Choir is expected).
AMV3O1 - Grade 11 Vocal Music (Open)
This course develops students' artistic knowledge and skills through the performance of music and the preparation of music productions. Students will perform appropriate works, particularly works in contemporary popular styles. Independently and in groups, they will also plan, market, and produce music productions, making use of appropriate technology, and will evaluate the results.
