To support student-athletes who are pursuing their individual sport and fitness goals by building the four corners of athlete development: physical, technical, mental, and social/emotional.

Grade 11 Personal Fitness

This course focuses on the development of a healthy active lifestyle by way of active participation in a variety of activities that promote sustained, ongoing physical fitness. Students will be challenged to set personal fitness goals and learn how to design individual strength and conditioning programs to enhance their athleticism. Students will work towards developing all components of physical fitness including cardiorespiratory, flexibility, strength and conditioning, speed, power and agility. Students will also study the principles of conditioning, anatomy, nutrition, and mental health.

This course option will be offered as a co-ed class.

PAF 40

Grade 12 Personal Fitness

This course focuses on fitness for life. Students will develop individual fitness plans to help improve and maintain a high level of fitness. This course will also focus on designing training programs for specific sport development or personal overall fitness improvement. Regular work-outs will include an emphasis on weight training and cardiovascular training.

This course is offered as a Dual Credit course with Fleming College in Fitness and Lifestyle Management (REC3R). Dual Credit (DC) courses are college courses delivered by college faculty to secondary school students. If successful, students will get both a secondary school and college credit. There are no costs associated with DC courses for secondary school students.

This course option will be offered as a co-ed class.

Introduction to Kinesiology

This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.
