A: The Keystone Oaks Nursery School (KONS) accepts children between the ages of 3 1/2 and 5 and not previously enrolled in kindergarten. If your child will not be 3 1/2 by the beginning of the session, your application will be waived until the following session.
District residents receive preference first, and if there is space available, non-residents will be accepted first-come, first-served.
Children must be toilet-trained before attending. We understand that accidents happen and are prepared to help; however, there are no diapering facilities in the high school.
A: KONS is operated by the high school students in grades 10 through 12 enrolled in Child Development and Advanced Child Development courses. Each child is typically supervised by 2 high school students, although sometimes the ratio is 1:1.
A: No. The children are taught specific lessons based on a theme every week. Children will engage in lessons involving math, science, art, songs, stories, the alphabet, and physical activity. We also spend time every day practicing dates on the calendar and talking about the weather. Children also have the opportunity to participate in show-and-tell every week.
A: We accept a maximum of 16 children per session; however, that number may decrease based on the number of high school students enrolled in the course.
A: KONS runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from mid-September until winter break, and again in the spring from mid-February until the mid-May. In the fall, there is one session (typically in the morning), and in the spring, there are two (morning and afternoon). The schedule is subject to change based on the school calendar and high school master schedule.
Each day of nursery school lasts approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
There is no nursery school on days that Keystone Oaks is off school, has a two hour delay, or is cancelled.
A: Enrollment preference is given to first-time attendees and district residents. If there is space available once the enrollment period has closed, returning children will be accepted.
A: Applications may be submitted electronically through the Apply Online link in the menu. The cost per session is $40; however, this fee is NOT to be submitted with the application. It will be collected at the orientation session after you have received confirmation of your spot.
The enrollment periods are as follows:
May: enrollment window for the Fall and Spring sessions
December: enrollment for the Spring session will reopen if there is space available
A: Yes, orientation must be attended prior to the start of the session. This gives the children and parents time to meet with the student teachers as well as understand the program and procedures. It is typically held the last Monday, Wednesday, or Friday before the first official day of nursery school.
A: Yes, children must be potty trained. There are no diapering facilities in the classroom.
