IMPORTANT NOTICE BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
To create a Koru account, you must actively check the box accepting these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. The enrollment questionnaire will not open until all mandatory terms have been accepted.
If you are registering a minor under 18, you —as the parent or legal guardian— accept these terms on the minor's behalf and assume responsibility for the minor's use of the platform. The teen will also give their own acceptance before using their space.

Mindfulness and guided meditation
Spirituality and personal reflection exercises
Family communication coaching
Digital mediation between parents and children
General emotional wellbeing tracking
Koru is a WELLBEING and COACHING platform. It is not, and does not claim to be, a mental health, psychology, psychiatry, or therapy service, or any form of medical or clinical care.
Koru Roots LLC is not a licensed mental health provider. No member of our team and no feature of our platform —including the artificial intelligence agents— provides diagnosis, treatment, or clinical intervention of any kind.
The Koru platform and all of its features, including the artificial intelligence agents and any other tool, do NOT constitute:
Psychological therapy or psychotherapy
Mental health counseling
Psychiatric treatment
Diagnosis of any mental health condition
Medical care of any kind
Using Koru does not replace care from a licensed mental health professional. If you or your child is going through a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, or any situation requiring clinical care, please contact a mental health professional or emergency services.
IN AN EMERGENCY, CALL 911
Koru is not an emergency service and does not guarantee response times. If you, your child, or anyone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
For an emotional crisis, you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), available in Spanish by pressing option 2.
These disclaimers apply to all users of the platform, regardless of age, location, or subscription type.
Koru is designed for the following users:
Adults (18 or older): parents and legal guardians.
Teens ages 14 to 17: with mandatory authorization from their parent or legal guardian.
Young adults ages 18 and 19: with their own consent (see Section 3.4).
Use of the platform by anyone under 14 is not permitted under any circumstances. If Koru detects that a user is under 14, it will suspend the account, delete the information received, and notify the registered parent or guardian.
For any user ages 14 to 17, the following is required:
Registration and active approval by a parent or legal guardian
Identity verification of the responsible adult
Express acceptance of these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, by checking a box that the adult must complete before accessing the questionnaire
The teen's own acceptance, in age-appropriate language, before using their space on the platform
The parent or guardian who registers a minor assumes full responsibility for the minor's use of the platform and for the accuracy of the information provided during registration.
By accepting these terms, the adult registering the minor represents that:
They are the minor's parent or legal guardian and have the legal authority to enroll the minor on the platform.
If they are not a parent (for example, a relative caring for the minor), they hold a document supporting that authority and will provide it if Koru requests it.
The information about whom the minor lives with and who has custody is true and complete.
If another parent with legal rights over the minor objects to the minor's participation, Koru will suspend the service until both parents reach an agreement.
When a teen turns 18, the consent given by their parent or guardian is no longer valid. From that point:
The young adult decides whether to continue on the platform, with their own acceptance of these terms.
The young adult may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their data.
Koru will not share the young adult's information with their parents without their consent, except as required by law.
In a crisis, Koru will notify the parents of an 18- or 19-year-old only if the young adult has authorized it. If there is immediate danger, Koru will contact 911.
Koru collects only the information needed to operate the service:
Name (may be a nickname or first name)
Date of birth and age group
Relationship to the minor and custody or legal authority information
Phone number and email of the parent or guardian
Name and phone number of a secondary emergency contact
Verification word chosen by the parent or guardian
Wellbeing questionnaire responses
Conversations with the artificial intelligence agents (encrypted)
Platform usage data
Recordings and transcripts of calls related to risk situations
Records of acceptance of these terms (date, time, and version accepted)
Koru does not request or record the immigration status of any user.
A teen's full conversations with the artificial intelligence agents are PRIVATE. Koru does not share the full content of those conversations with parents or guardians, except:
When a risk situation is detected (see Section 6)
When the law requires a report to the authorities (see Section 6.2)
Under a court order
With the teen's express consent
Parents have access to general progress and wellbeing summaries, NOT to the full text of their children's conversations.
Koru does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If information from a child under 14 is received, it will be deleted. Parents may request review, correction, or deletion of their child's data at any time, and Koru does not sell or share minors' data with third parties for commercial purposes.
Conversations are stored encrypted for a maximum of 12 months
Account data is kept while the account is active
When an account is closed, data is deleted within 30 days
Crisis incident logs —including recordings, transcripts, and proof of contact— and records of reports to authorities are kept for 3 years for legal reasons, in storage that does not allow them to be edited or deleted
Records of acceptance of these terms are kept for as long as the relationship with the user exists and as long as required by law
The following uses require separate, optional consent. Declining them does not prevent use of the platform or access to the questionnaire:
Use of the family's testimonials, photos, or stories
Use of anonymized data for research or to improve the service
Marketing communications by phone call, text message, or email
These consents may be withdrawn at any time by writing to the privacy email listed in Section 12.
Koru uses artificial intelligence agents to provide wellbeing support. The user acknowledges and agrees that:
They are talking with artificial intelligence agents, not with people in real time
Koru's human team supervises the platform but does not read every conversation in real time
The artificial intelligence agents are technology tools, not mental health professionals
Responses are generated algorithmically and may contain errors
The agents cannot accurately assess a user's clinical condition
The agents do not remember prior conversations between sessions unless otherwise stated
Koru's artificial intelligence agents are designed to operate within strict wellbeing and coaching boundaries. However, Koru Roots LLC cannot guarantee that every response will be perfect, complete, or appropriate for every individual situation. The user is responsible for critically evaluating the information provided.
Users must not use Koru's artificial intelligence agents to:
Obtain medical or mental health diagnoses
Replace ongoing psychological or psychiatric treatment
Make medical decisions based solely on their responses
Share third parties' information without their consent
Koru has a system for detecting risk situations. By accepting these Terms, the user expressly authorizes the following:
The system reviews conversations to detect risk indicators, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, abuse, exploitation, serious eating concerns, or danger to the user or others. Alerts are reviewed by Koru's human team.
PRIVACY HAS LIMITS WHEN THERE IS RISK
Florida law requires any person who has reasonable cause to suspect that a child is being abused, abandoned, or neglected to report it to the Florida Abuse Hotline. Koru complies with this obligation and with equivalent laws in other jurisdictions where the minor is located.
If there are signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or danger, Koru will report to the appropriate authorities. When notifying the parents or guardians first could put the minor at risk, Koru may report without prior notice.
EXPRESS AUTHORIZATION
If the user is a minor and a risk situation is detected, Koru will notify the registered parent or legal guardian. The notification will include the type of alert and recommended crisis resources, but NOT the full text of the conversation.
Exception: Koru will not notify the parent or guardian when there are signs that this person is the source of the risk, or when notification could endanger the minor. In those cases, Koru will act under Section 6.2, and contact with the parents may depend on the authorities' instructions.
If the minor's custody is suspended or in dispute, Koru will apply its co-parenting protocol before contacting either party.
The parent or guardian expressly authorizes Koru Roots LLC to contact them through automated calls and messages, including calls using an artificial intelligence–generated voice, at the number provided, for the purpose of notifying them about situations related to their child's wellbeing or safety. If Koru cannot reach the guardian, it may contact the secondary emergency contact. Contact may be made through:
Phone calls made by a member of Koru's team
Phone calls using an artificial intelligence–generated voice, which always identify themselves at the start as automated calls
Text messages, WhatsApp, and email
A member of Koru's team takes part in the contact or follows up immediately, and a written confirmation message is sent the same day. If a call reaches voicemail, Koru will leave only a message asking for a call back, without mentioning the teen or any details of the situation.
Automated calls are not used when the alert is due to suspected abuse or neglect. In those cases, Section 6.2 applies.
This consent covers safety and service communications only, not advertising. It is not a condition of purchase and may be revoked in writing at any time; if revoked, Koru will continue to contact the guardian through its human team. The user agrees to keep their contact numbers current and to notify Koru of any changes.
Koru calls related to the minor's wellbeing or safety, including those made with an artificial intelligence–generated voice, will be recorded and transcribed. These records are kept as proof of contact in accordance with Koru's Privacy Policy. Each recorded call is announced at the start.
At enrollment, the parent or guardian chooses a verification word. On urgent calls, Koru will ask for that word before sharing any information and will not share information about the minor with anyone who cannot confirm it. At the end of the message, the person will be asked to confirm that they understood it; that recorded confirmation serves as proof of receipt.
At registration, the parent or guardian must designate a trusted adult as a secondary emergency contact, whom Koru may contact if it cannot reach the guardian during a risk situation. The guardian represents that this person has agreed to be designated and contacted.
If Koru believes there is an immediate danger to the user or to others, it may contact 911, emergency services, or the appropriate authorities without prior notice to the user or their guardian. The user acknowledges that Koru is not an emergency service and that this ability does not guarantee any intervention or response time.
It does not clinically assess the level of risk
It does not guarantee detection of 100% of risk situations
It does not guarantee that a notice will reach the guardian if contact information is not up to date
It does not provide crisis counseling; it refers users to specialized resources
It does not replace the supervision and care of parents and guardians
IMPORTANT LIMITATION: The crisis detection system is a supporting technology tool. It is not infallible. Koru Roots LLC does not guarantee that all risk messages will be detected. Parents and guardians are the first line of protection for teens.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Koru Roots LLC will not be liable for:
Damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the platform
Decisions made by the user based on AI-generated content
Failures to detect crisis situations
Data loss due to causes beyond the company's reasonable control
Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
Nothing in these terms limits Koru Roots LLC's liability where the law does not permit such a limitation.
In no event will Koru Roots LLC's total liability to a user exceed the amount paid by that user for use of the platform in the prior 12 months, or $100 USD, whichever is greater.
The user agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Koru Roots LLC, its partners, employees, and agents from any claim, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:
Breach of these Terms of Service
Misuse of the platform
Violation of third-party rights through use of the service
False information provided during registration, including information about legal authority over the minor
The user agrees not to use the platform to:
Share illegal, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or fraudulent content
Harass, intimidate, or harm other users
Attempt to access other users' accounts or data, including a teen's private conversations
Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code
Use the platform for unauthorized commercial purposes
Bypass or attempt to bypass the security systems and boundaries of the artificial intelligence agents
Koru reserves the right to suspend or cancel accounts that violate these conduct rules, without prior notice and without refund.
All content on the Koru platform —including its methodology, design, text, tools, brand, name, logo, and artificial intelligence agents— is the exclusive property of Koru Roots LLC and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
The user receives a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the platform solely for personal, non-commercial purposes.
User-generated content (questionnaire responses, journaling entries) remains the user's property. The user grants Koru Roots LLC a license to use that content solely to operate the service and, in anonymized form, to improve it, subject to the consents in Section 4.5.
Koru Roots LLC may modify these Terms of Service. When material changes are made:
Users will be notified by email at least 15 days in advance
Changes will be posted on the platform with their effective date
The user must actively accept the new version before continuing to use the platform. For minors, acceptance will be given again by the parent or guardian.
Koru Roots LLC may also modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the service, with or without notice.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions.
For any dispute arising from these Terms or from use of the platform, the parties agree to:
Attempt to resolve the dispute amicably within 30 days of notice
If no agreement is reached, submit the dispute to mediation in Miami-Dade County, Florida
If mediation fails, resolve the dispute through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA)
The user waives the right to participate in class actions against Koru Roots LLC, to the extent permitted by law.
These Terms are available in Spanish and English. In case of conflict between the two versions, the English version shall prevail for legal purposes.
