One of the first African American authors in history. Arguably, the most influential author in the history of literature. Author of novels Black Boy, Native Son, Eight Men, e.t.c. He absorbed his experiences as a person of color, and turned it into the ink that finalized the very books that solidified his name in literary history!
During the time of Richard Wright's up bringing the country was going through during the Civil Rights movements. Women were just starting to take a stand for themselves and as Mr. Wright became an author he became a part of the African American Civil rights movements as well. His work was predominantly in the late 1930s and 1940s.

Wright's Most Famous Works
Black Boy is one of Wright's most influential novels. It tells the story of a young African American boy growing up in the South. It was based off of his expierences and the battles he faced in his childhood. It illustrates realistic situations that impoverished and African American people still fight today in daily life.
Native Son is a novel abouta young African American man who accidentally kills a young white woman. He must fight for himself and avoid being caught because he knows that he will never get a just punishment.

Interview with Wright
The Man who Lived Underground is a story about an innocent man who fled after being forced to confess to the murder of a white couple by police. Julia Wright, Richard Wright's daughter, says it was a no-brainer to publish it in an interview. She found his work at Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library and immediately thought to publish it. She said that "Black men who were ‘free’ but who were sentenced to death in the streets.” Julia shares her father's drive and passion for civil rights and is continuing her father legacy by publishing his unseen work.
