Prestholt's Colts ADvisory

PRestholt's COlts ADvisory

Each advisory is made up of a group of 5th-8th grade students that stay with the same advisory group for their four years at Kasson-Mantorville Middle School. The purpose of advisory at KMMS is to build community amongst grade levels, to provide students with character-building and service opportunities, and to have fun! Advisory students meet together for the first 20 minutes of every school day, as well as an entire day for our fall Community Service Day and our spring All-Day Advisory.

Advisory Weekly Slides

Each quarter we have a schedule of five different days that our advisory schedule rotates through. These five days include:

Engagement Day: Some sort of game or team-building activity.

Theme Day: A character-building lesson or activity related to the monthly theme. (For example, October's theme is service and November's is gratitude).

Curriculum Day: A lesson from either the OLWEUS (Bullying Prevention) Curriculum or from the TLC Top 20 Studnets curriculum to provide students an opportunity for self-reflection.

Academic Day: An opportunity for students to work on school work, check grades, or reflect on their study habits.

Wellness Day: An opportunity for students to either go to the gym or go outside and be active. This is especially great for 7th/8th grade students who no longer have recess built into their days.

Community Service Day

Engaging in service is an important part of being a successful student. Each fall students in advisories participate in a variety of different service opportunities. Students in Prestholt's advisory the past couple of years have raked leaves in Mantorville park, have helped to clean buses, have created cards to thank service members, and have packed boxes for Operation Christmas Child. It is really awesome to see students engage in service opportunities and get the chance to reflect on how their actions can make a positive difference in the world. If you have suggestions for service opportunities for our group please reach out by emailing Ms. Prestholt.

Spring All-Day Advisory

Each spring students participate in an all-day advisory where they get to engage in a variety of fun, community-building activities with their advisory groups. Last year students in Prestholt's Colts advisory went to Oxbow park where they got to go fishing, hiking, have a picnic, and engage in a photo scavenger hunt throughout the park.

PBIS Video

Each year advisories participate in a PBIS (positive-based interventions and supports) video to show how students at KMMS should use the 4 B's of be respectful, be responsible, be engaged, and be safe in a particular space in the school. To the right is our 3rd place 2021 entry in the PBIS video contest.
