A growing awareness of the seriousness of environmental problems caused by climate change is being accompanied by a global interest in 'sustainability' as a solution. To meet this demand, our laboratory is developing a biorefinery platform technology by developing conversion technologies for lignocellulosic biomass, a representative sustainable resource. The following main research topics have been chosen for investigation: 1. Carbon materials (for secondary batteries & supercapacitors and gas adsorption & storage) derived from biomass; 2. Biomass-based filler for bioplastics and adhesion; 3. Sustainable flame retardant using lignin and biochar; 4. Functional materials based on cellulose (for secondary battery, etc.). In addition, we are preparing to develop the lignin- & ethanol-derivable biomass-based sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and perform the LCA of the biomass conversion technologies.
