My name is Scout, and I am a Senior at West High School. I am going on my 4th year in the program, and I initially joined due to the persuasion of two of my elder brothers, who also went through NJROTC. Outside of the program I enjoy everything theater, and am a current stage manager and ex-actor with Company West. This year I wish to share with my peers all the opportunities available in NJROTC, and encourage them to become more active in the program to strengthen this community!

My name is Gilbert and I am a Senior at West High School. I am going on my 4th year in the program, and I originally joined NJROTC because I didn’t want to take Health and Wellness. Outside of the program, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, playing my guitar, being with friends and listening to all kinds of music! This year I’d like to better my ability to connect with my cadets in a personal level as to lead them through a better lens. I have the drive and want, it’s gonna be a good year!

My name is Tristen, and I am a Senior at West High School. I am going on my 4th year in the program, and I initially joined NJROTC because I wanted a place of community and discipline in my life. Outside of the program, I enjoy wrestling, gardening, building projects, and swimming. This year I want to focus on strengthening the community in the program, to make NJROTC a place of trust and have fun while doing so.

My name is Gabrielle, and I am a Junior at West High School. I am going on my 3rd year in the program, and I originally joined NJROTC because my older brother was in the program and I wanted to have a class with him his Senior year; I ended up loving it and decided to stay. Outside of the program, I am a dancer and perform year-round. I also love reading. I hope to help this year's cadets work together and create a space where all of them feel comfortable.

Command Organizational Chart
The primary responsibility of leadership for all Cadet Officers and Chief Petty Officers is to set the highest standards of performance, lead by example, and do the best job possible. All WHS Cadets are responsible for meeting the expected standards of conduct and personal grooming as explained in the Cadet Field Manual.
Officer and Chief Petty Officer Responsibilities
With the assistance of the NSI, the SNSI selects and promotes/advances Cadets to Officer and Chief Petty Officer positions based on demonstrated leadership, performance, academic competence, active participation in unit activities, and enthusiasm. Cadet Officers and Chief Petty Officers are expected to set the example for junior Cadets in every aspect of the NJROTC program at WHS, as well as in school activities, in the community and at home. The responsibilities of leadership must be accepted before privileges associated with the officer and the Chief ranks may be enjoyed. Extra effort and time will be required to do the job assigned. Continued enthusiasm, a positive attitude, strong motivation, and outstanding performance are required of each Cadet Officer and Chief Petty Officer if he/she wishes to remain in their assigned billet or to earn promotions or advancements. The NSI will remove from the Officer and Chief Petty Officer ranks any Cadet whose performance is unsatisfactory. All advancements to Chief Petty Officer and promotions to Officer positions are temporary and will be evaluated at the end of each marking period for continuation or removal from the position.
Platoon Commanders (PC)/Class Leader
Under the direction of the XO, train, and lead assigned platoon personnel in all aspects of military performance. The Platoon Commander’s duties include, but are not limited to those listed below:
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of individual, squad, and platoon drill, plus the guidon, inspection, and sword manual positions of the Drill and Ceremonies Manual.
- Take steps necessary to ensure the platoon is prepared for the Area Managers Annual Military Inspection, Change of Command, and any other functions where basic drill skills are required.
- Take charge of the assigned platoon for all inspections and other military formations.
- Develop and promote high morale and spirit in their platoons.
- Take personal responsibility for the advancement, participation, and welfare of the Cadets in their platoon.
- Lead by example, and be “involved.”
Team Captains (Special Teams)
Team captains are responsible for the overall training and management of their teams. Under the direction of the Cadet Commander, they will prepare Cadets to participate in NJROTC-sponsored and other competitions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Establish, publish, and hold a regular schedule of training sessions.
- Nominate qualified Cadets to take part in competitions.
- Establish and maintain team assignments to support the best training and competitiveness of the teams.
- Verify team member’s ribbon request forms for awarding the Team Ribbon in accordance with established criteria.
- Maintain a file of material that will assist Cadets in preparing for tests.
- Coordinate desired competitions with the team’s coordinator.
- Maintain accurate muster records for each scheduled practice. A permanent muster book will be utilized and the book will be placed in a permanent file at the end of the school year. Those team members who have excused absence from school on the day of a practice or who have been excused by the CO/XO or NSI will not be penalized in any way.
- Ensure the PAO is provided with the information concerning the activities of teams so that press coverage can be obtained.
- Provide a list of those Cadets qualified to receive the NJROTC Varsity Letter (through the Chain of Command) three weeks prior to the end of the year Change of Command ceremony.
