The great thing about guard is that we are not one type of person. We are all different in so many ways and we are inclusive to all kinds of people. Colorguard is always a melting pot of backgrounds and much unlike other sports where you have one "type of personality" over the group.
"I heard about guard through my sister and I joined fall 2021. I have had 3 fall seasons and 2 winter seasons down and this is my senior year. I also play tuba in concert band at Central as well as a tuba feature in our marching band show. What I love about guard is the family environment and the challenges. When it came to tryouts, I was on the fence because I had never done anything band related to before but after going to the first practice I immediately fell in love with it."
"I heard about guard through my cousin and she convinced me to go to auditions. I auditioned around may of 2022 and I've done one winter season and this is my second fall season.
When it came to trying out, it was very nerve racking for me. I didn't know anyone there and it kind of felt isolating but i didnt feel that way for long. They other people there were very welcoming and willing to help whenever it was needed. Even now at auditions I fear that I might not make it to the next season but I think thats just the anxiety that comes with auditioning.
Something I love about guard is being able to go to all these different places for competitions and trips. Also being part of the band, Ive made so many friends and i haven't even been here that long."
"I’ve been a part of the band since 2016, but I TECHNICALLY joined in 2020 during COVID and I am also currenlty in the theater program at Central. What I love about guard is the friendships you make, having the chance to do some of the most meaningful routines with some of the most meaningful people. When it came to tryouts, I had some baby guard experience and wanted to do it for so long. I was nervous, but I was so excited that it didn’t matter."
"I just generally found out guard about it when i got into highschool; I joined for last years winter season and I have one winter season under my belt :) Something I love about guard is the performing and the artistry of it! Outside of guard, I march flute with the bobcat band. Trying out for colorguard, I was definitely on the fence and really nervous but I don't regret it one bit."
"I found out about guard through my sister River and I joined in winter of 2022 during the show "Piece by Piece". Guard is a lot of fun and I got learn really cool tricks/skills. I'm am also a percussion section leader of the marching band, in national honors society, and captain of the academic team at Central. When it came to auditions, I had like no experience except for the fact that I could keep time. I was also on the fence about trying out but I went through with it and had a really fun time."
