Important Logistical Information
Before day of design
What should we do prior to the Day of Design?
Identify the problem to solve or the product to create
Work to create a draft of your solution to share with the industry consultants for feedback.
Collect and keep with you the field trip permission slip (English/Spanish ) and photo release form by November 9. Sponsors must attend this day with their team.
Day of design - what are we doing?
What are we doing on the day of design? Will we actually build something?
Your prototype can be a drawing or something virtual. It does not have to be a physical product.
With your team, discuss what worked well and what were some obstacles during your creation process. Consider the research components from the Launch Research Cycle Guide.
Collaborate, map out, and brainstorm your prototype ideas with your team. Note: Additional materials will not be available on the Day of Design.
As part of the team's Day of Design product, be prepared to share how teamwork impacted the design process, the team's expert from the Think Tank, how they came up with the design, and how they overcame obstacles to the prototype. Share how your team would market/communicate your prototype with business leaders, investors, community leaders, or emergency responders.
Create a script for your final submission involving all team members for your one-minute video about your team design experience.
What to bring
What should we bring to the Day of Design?
Technology -- Please ensure that you bring tablets, laptops, iPads, etc. for your students, if you feel they will be necessary. There is also limited power, so be sure that your devices are fully charged. You might want to bring a power strip with you.
Student and teacher cell phones are acceptable.
Materials: Due to our extraordinary school response to the challenge, all teams are limited to materials that will fit in a standard size backpack.

Day of Design’s To-Do List
Take a team picture and tweet out with the #kleincreates hashtag and post it on social media.
Make a short video and send it to your principal telling him/her what you’re learning and showing them your excitement for the day!
Work on your project and collaborate with your project consultant. Be sure to tweet out and post pics as you go. Be sure to check kisd.us/kleincreates for information.
Complete the SELF REFLECTION form for each student. You will keep these to use as feedback for your team as you continue to work on the project.
Please write thank you notes to our industry partners. (You have a few cards in your packet.) Be sure to write one to whomever worked with you today whether in person or virtually. You can turn these in at any time at the registration desk.
We would love to see a team video with answers to these questions:
What did you learn today?
Who did you talk to today? Make sure to include both your industry partner, as well as other schools.
What did you learn that changed or improved the design of your prototype?
How did you respond to expert advice?
Advisors: please fill out this FEEDBACK FORM as part of continuous improvement to help make events like these better next time!
Thank you for reimagining learning for our students!
