Please give your recommender at least 2 weeks so they have plenty of time to write your letter of recommendation.
Letters should be sent directly to the institution/organization.
What is my GPA and rank?
Your GPA and rank can be found on your UNOFFICIAL transcript. It can also be found in Skyward in the portfolio section.
What scale is my GPA on?
You have 2 GPAs. One is a weighted GPA on a 4.0+ scale. This is the GPA that your rank is based on and is the one on the letter in Skyward. You also have an un-weighted (collegiate) GPA on a 4.0 scale and it is located on your OFFICIAL and UNOFFICIAL transcript.
Do I need a recommendation letter?
Not all applications need a recommendation letter. If you decide to ask for a recommendation letter, be sure to allow plenty of time for your recommender to write the letter and you must provide them with a completed "Brag Sheet" or student resume.
When do I submit my application?
You can submit your application as soon as you have completed your portion. You do NOT need to wait on your counselor or recommenders to submit their portion.
How do I send my transcript?
If you are using ApplyTexas, you can request your transcript within the application platform. If you are using Common App, you will need to visit the Registrars' website and request an Official Transcript for Common App.
How many college credits/hours will I have when I graduate?
Log into your my.lonestar.edu student portal, click on student, click on academic records; on the left-hand side menu choose transcript. When you open your trasncript you will be able to see the number of credits you have, including the credits you are currently enrolled in. The OnRamps courses are each 3 credit hours. AP classes do not count as college credit for the application process.
How do I write a good essay?
Write to the prompt given and let your voice be heard. Try not to repeat what is already in your application (grades, organizations, etc) Be creative and let your voice be heard!! Be sure to have someone read it before submitting. Don't use Chat GPT.
Where do I find Scholarship Information?
Check out the "Scholarship/Financial Aid" tab on this website. Check the college/university website under their financial aid section. Ask parents or other adults in your life if their businesses or places of work offer local scholarships. Check out the Scholarship Search websites and get on email lists. Scholarships are what YOU make them...put in the time/effort and it will pay off.
