Kent State has both a KKPsi and a TBS chapter, both are co-ed/open to all genders and are on campus for the same core values of promoting college bands through service and leadership.
The biggest difference between the two is that TBS has a stronger focus on women in music "emphasizing empowerment and inclusion for women within the band world alongside shared service goals." They were founded to provide specific support and recognition for women in bands when they were initally excluded from Kappa Kappa Psi because it was male only at the time of their founding.
The other main difference is that TBS has a different set of rituals or "degrees" than KKPsi, you are not allowed to be a member of both organizations.
Today, both organizations are co-ed and frequently work together on their campuses.

The chapter typically meets once a week to discuss business and plan/coordinate events.
Membership Candidates will meet once a week in the spring to complete the Road to Risdom (led by the Vice President for Membership and their Bigs) and get initiated in the fraternity, during this time they are also welcome to attend our business meetings. All dates and events with required attendace will be communicated months in advance to all Membership Candidates and Brothers of the fratenrity.
The only things you cannot do as a Membership Candidate is vote during business meetings, wear letters, or call yourself a brother until after 3rd Degree.
Joing KKpsi or TBs is a great oppertunity to continue yourking on band service such as ensemble setup/tear down, Marching band organization, uniforms etc. It is also a create place to learn more about yourself, develop your skills and talents and to gain leadership experince. It's also a great oppertunity to meet new people and make new friends across univeristies and states
Kappa Kappa Psi and Tua Beta Sigma chapters across the country host workshops you can attend that dive deeper into history, our rituals, leadership skills and development.

The Beta Psi chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi is a part of the North Central District, this includes any university in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky or West Virginia that has a fraternity or sorority chapter.
The North Central District, like other districts in the nation, hold a District Convention once every year, usually at the end of March or the beginning of April, location is decided by the NCD Council but will be held in one of those states near a university that has a chapter. These conventions are where we attend to workshops to better ourselves, our chapters, and our brotherhood. We can also vote for changes to be made to the way things are organized or the leaders in charge. And we can support other chapters buying purchasing goods from them such as stickets, keycahins or tshirts.
The National Convention takes place every 2 years and can be anywhere in the United States, similar to District Conventions, Nationals also will take place near a university that has a chapter. The workshops, voting, and merchadise oppertunites are all the same here, however the voting is for people being elected onto the National Conuncil not the district council. NatCon is also longer than Districts, roughly 4 days compared to 2 and a half.
Workshops are held throughout the year both virtually and in person, Spring Workshops are hosted at universities selected by the NCD (Beta Psi hosted one in 2025!). Workshops also called "Chopshops" are day long agendas that will have a specific focus or theme for the day such as "Strengthing Brotherhood" "Leadership Skills" etc. These, unlike conventions, are free to register for, the only cost on your part is for the travel to get there and food.
None of these events are required for you to attend but they are another great way to meet new people, learn from others and create change in your chapter.
