Thank you to Arthur Holmes for
giving
us the jars for our Kawakawa Balm.
Thank you to Countdown Kerikeri for
giving
us olive oil for our Kawakawa Balm.
Thank you Miss Penny for giving us some beeswax for our Kawakawa Balm.
Before we picked the kawakawa leaves we followed tikanga and did a karakia.
We can't take all the leaves from one plant otherwise it will die.
We had to pick the kawakawa leaves from the sunny side so they can grow back quicker.
After we did a karakia we picked leaves with holes in them. The leaves with holes in them have more rongoā (medicine).
After we picked the leaves we came back to class to put them in a bowl over night so they would lose their moisture.
Te Whakatupuranga had a competition to design a label for the kawakawa balm jars.
