Every culture handles mental health differently. It is important that we are knowledgeable of our students' cultural backgrounds and take the time to educate ourselves about how mental health is viewed in their communities. Many school districts have counselors, social workers or parent/community coordinators to help work with families. Please reach out to your district to find these staff members. If this resource is not available to you, please reach out to organizations in your local community.
It is difficult for school counselors to create specific lesson plans on mental health. Here are some resources to learn about diverse communities.
