A PRIMARY ECO WARRIOR PROJECT
Water management is one of the main sustainability objectives KIS is focusing on this year. Water is essential to life on Earth, supporting biodiversity, natural resources, and climate resilience. Despite Borneo’s “ever wet” climate, it is not uncommon for the school to experience disruptions to the local water supply caused by roadworks or occasional periods of drought.
To help address this issue, KIS has installed a water butt to collect rainwater for use in our school gardens and green spaces. By collecting and utilising rainwater, KIS can reduce utility costs while also lowering our reliance on local water suppliers in Kota Kinabalu. This initiative also helps students better understand the importance of sustainable water use and conservation.
Our target is for a water butt to be installed by Term 2.
All water used by the KIS Garden and Herb House to come from our Water Butt by Term 3.
Sometimes we run out of water, but it falls free from the sky! We wanted to solve the problem, so we thought a water butt might work.
