Jongeun Seong (Class of 2020)
University of Sydney - Seoul National University / International Relations & Chinese Studies, International Studies
“I am currently a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in international studies at Seoul National University. My research interests are in emerging security issues in international relations, such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, as well as traditional security concerns, including nuclear non-proliferation and arms control in the Indo-Pacific region. After graduating from Korea International School, Jeju Campus, I earned my bachelor's degree with distinction in international relations and Chinese studies from the University of Sydney. In the near future, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. and work as a researcher in the field of international relations and security.”
Roy Kim (Class of 2016)
Cornell University - Princeton University / Civil and Environmental Engineering
“After the completion of my Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, I entered the world of structural engineering to explore my passion for building designs. I am currently working as a structural engineer in the city of New York, and I have been involved in miscellaneous projects that are built with concrete, steel and timber. I am also very passionate about achieving sustainability and carbon neutrality through technology and value-engineering.”
Ji Yoon Lee (Class of 2018)
University of Southern California / Biochemistry & Piano
“Hi! I graduated from USC in May 2022 as a biochemistry major & piano minor. I loved being in a sorority, singing in an A Cappella, going to football games, and skateboarding around campus. I have been working as an international sales & marketing representative in a Korean chemical manfacturing company in Seoul since August 2023. I hope to continue with this job for at least two more years before seeking another big step for the next stage of my life. Being a member of society (and making money of course) has been very different from being a student, and I have learned SO much for the past year. I still hold my best memories from KISJ and maintain the best friendships from that time. Otherwise, I am enjoying my time with my family and my church community these days, of course. :)”
Caroline Kim (Class of 2022)
Emory University / Biology
“In college, my path has been all about wholeheartedly diving into a double major in biology and human health on the pre-med track. But what really stands out as an incredible moment was when I got the chance to be part of the Emory Medical Brigades trip to Honduras. That experience was like a burst of understanding about how healthcare works and how diverse cultures influence it. I was right in the middle of a whole different healthcare system, working alongside local experts, and it opened my eyes wide to the global health issues we face. This journey has really sealed the deal for me – I'm absolutely committed to the medical field, and I've developed this deep passion for healthcare that's grounded in real facts and information.”
Moonseong Kim (Class of 2018)
Purdue University / Mechanical Engineering
“The first thing on my mind when I graduated from KISJ was to avoid going to graduate school. I wanted to jump right into the industry and make an immediate impact on my everyday life. However, during my college journey, I had the opportunity to witness several individuals conducting research and developing real-world applications. This experience led me to explore the world of research. I engaged in multiple undergraduate research projects and eventually made the decision to pursue a Ph.D. focused on Li-ion battery technology at ETSL Purdue. While this path may not be the best fit for everyone, I highly recommend trying your hand at research during your undergraduate years – it's a valuable experience that won't harm you.”
DAEUN JUNG (Class of 2020)
NYU ABU DHABI / Economics
“It is my primary goal to finish my higher education in obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Economics while continuing to explore my interests. Although many parts about my future plans are yet to be decided, I am confident that I will be able to find the right path with the skills and lessons I’ve learned at KISJ.”
ANNA AN (Class of 2019)
JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY / Neuroscience & CS
“When I graduated from KISJ, I imagined myself as a researcher. But going through several researches at JHU, I learned that it’s not what I want to be. As of now, I’m thinking about working in a biotechnology company to develop drugs for neurological diseases.”
DENNIS KIM (Class of 2018)
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY / International Politics
“University experience has been absolutely amazing! I had the opportunity to intern for some prestigious think tanks and even start my own company. As of now, I plan to get through with my military service first and maybe attend graduate school or continue with my job.”
JE WOO HAN (Class of 2018)
NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY / Political Science & International Affairs
“As a third culture kid, the concept of globalization and international relations has literally always been a part of defining my life. I was born in Korea, raised in China and somehow I sound like I’m from Nebraska. This multi-cultural background helped lead to my interest in Model UN and global politics in high school so choosing my current major was not a difficult choice for me. In the long term, I’m looking to attend either grad school or law school."
CAROLINE RYE (Class of 2020)
CORNELL UNIVERSITY / Statistics & CS
“I chose my current major based on a book I read over the summer, Factfulness by Hans Rosling. The book described 10 major human instincts that hinder people from viewing the world as it is and I was utterly shocked at how little I knew about the world. It also motivated me to let more people see the world with a fact-based mindset. Working and learning more about statistics along the way made me choose my major. I hope to pursue a master’s degree after college in Data Science to gain analytical skills and become a data scientist with a concentration in machine learning.”
LYNN WOO (Class of 2016)
HANYANG UNIVERSITY / International Studies & Architectural Design
"I’ve attended both American and Korean universities. I am very proud of this unique background as they have become my various and valuable experiences. I hope to be as happy as I am now and to trust and be satisfied with myself.”
GEORGE PARK (Class of 2017)
EMORY UNIVERSITY / Business Administration
“I chose to study finance as many of the job positions in finance are client facing and require number analysis skills. I plan on pursuing my career in the financial services industry upon graduating university. I wish to make corporate level impacts in my everyday work using my industry expertise.”
ASHLYN LEE (Class of 2020)
U. OF COLORADO BOULDER / Psychology
“My college experience so far has been great! If anyone is contemplating whether or not they should go to college I’d like to say it’s more than just a school experience. It’s an experience that shows you how large the world actually is and teaches you how to find your place in this giant yet small world. I love my friends, professors, teaching assistants, classes, our campus and the weather! ”
JAMES CHIN (Class of 2020)
U. OF CALIFORNIA, RIVERSIDE / Media & Culture Studies
“ My freshman year has been very interesting because I am currently taking online classes. It’s difficult to make new friends and have much social interaction but thankfully, my school is reopening campus this upcoming Fall. I am also working while going to school and it’s helped me become more aware of precision and time management. ”
