Screencastify is a Chrome extension you can use to record videos and link them directly to Google Classroom. You will need to use the Chrome browser and install the Screencastify extension or visit their website. Instructions on how to do that and more can be found in the video. Videos are limited to 5 minutes so consider how you can break up direct instruction. You can record your screen or yourself.
Jamboard is a digital whiteboard that you can find in your Chrome apps (the box of dots in the top right corner). It allows you to draw on your screen just like you would your whiteboard. You can record yourself drawing and talking by using Screencastify at the same time. This tool is great for modeling math problems or handwriting.
Flipgrid is a communication tool that allows you to connect with your students through short videos. You create a video and students respond to you through video. It links to Google Classroom easily, and is a great way to "see" your students during remote learning. Check out the tutorial on how to get started!
You can record yourself teaching on your phone or other device and upload to YouTube using the YouTube app. You can then share the link with your class. Things to keep in mind:
Placing a video on YouTube gives people outside of your class access.
Do not include students in a video unless you have written permission from the parent. Always be mindful of our students on the No Media list (available with the campus secretary after registration).
YouTube does allow longer videos, but longer does not always equal better. Be sure that what you are asking your students to watch is developmentally appropriate in length. If you would not want to watch someone talking for 45 minutes, your students won't either.
Be sure your students can clearly see you and any materials you are using for the lesson.
