Sectors of the Economy

The primary sector of the economy is what you will typically find in an LDC or Periphery country. The secondary sector of the economy is what you will typically find in NIC or Semi-Periphery countries. The tertiary sector, quaternary and quintile sectors of the economy are typically found in MDC or Core countries.

Countries typically found in the primary/LDC/periphery are Mongolia, Madagascar and Honduras.

Countries typically found in the secondary/NIC/semi-periphery are Nigeria, China, Mexico and India.

Countries typically found in the tertiary, quaternary and quintile/MDC/core are the US, Japan, Germany.
