SUBJECT: [LAUNCHING AMPLIFY] Welcome to Amplify! Details on the 2018 Launch at KIPP Bay Area
Hello KIPP Bay Area Science Teachers!
I am so excited to partner with you this year, our first year of full-scale adoption of Amplify Science. Our entire approach to Amplify - coaching, DDI, PD, internalization, etc. - has completely changed based on feedback from teachers the past 2 years. This email is long, but it contains some important information on all the changes coming at you (and students!). Please work with your coach in navigating these resources and planning. All information in this email can also be found on the KIPP Bay Area STEM Website (tinyurl.com/stematkippbayarea).
New Teachers: We will cover half of this with me at Amplify 101 PD this week, and you will get the remaining covered in your Amplify 201 PD either with me or at your school site.
Returning Teachers: It’s highly recommended you preview the 101 and 201 PD resources as a lot has changed!
First a foremost, a HUGE shout out to our 12 K-8 Master Teachers who have been working tirelessly all summer to create all of our Master Teacher Resources. These teachers (4 of whom are reppin’ the Bay - the most of any region!) have been selected from across the entire KIPP Network to lead in the planning and creation of all our resources. More info on all of them here. They are:
There are TWO ways in which you can access resources and information on Amplify:
1. KIPPSTE WEBSITE
(kippste.org; password = workhardbecurious)
As a friendly reminder: all teachers should be following the scope and sequence from Amplify.
The way we internalize Amplify has been totally redesigned. Every unit begins with a Launch Unit Video that will carry you through the internalization and planning process. These videos are shared through Edpuzzle. You will need to create an account/login as a STUDENT so you can view and record your responses. Master Teachers are uploading everything from new unit assessment supports, new chapter tasks (with rubrics, CFS, and student-facing materials), their own daily materials, and more.
WHAT TO DO: Bookmark this page! Navigate to your unit’s page (likely your launch unit), start from the top and work your way down.
2. KIPP BAY AREA STEM WEBSITE
(tinyurl.com/stematkippbayarea; only accessible within KIPP Bay Area domain)
Have questions about account access, benchmarks, regional PD resources, state testing, or more? All information available on Amplify at KIPP Bay Area can be found on this site (including this entire email). Updates are posted as they become available.
WHAT TO DO: Bookmark this page! But nothing else for now - this should be your first stop for any Amplify-related questions.
ACCOUNT ACCESS AND KITS
(info found on the STEM Website)
All teacher and student accounts should be ready to go. Note that this information gets pulled from PowerSchool via Clever so, if something is up, please make sure you/students are enrolled in your courses on PowerSchool.
Kits are on their way! If you haven’t received them already, they are beginning to arrive at school sites. Please make sure you inventory all kits as soon as you get them. Supply lists are included in all kits.
WHAT TO DO: Log-in to Amplify using your KIPP Email to make sure it works and that you have access to the right curriculum. Please reach out to support@kippbayarea.org and CC: phil.kim@kippbayarea.org if you are having issues. Reach out to Phil with any missing materials or kits.
MORE TO COME
In a future email (or email Phil if you’d like info on this now):

Onward!
