Building Towards a STEM Vision and Direction
This Fall marks Year 3 of implementation of our regional STEM vision. Our first two years were spent developing a vision and long-term plan for alignment and to build infrastructure and capacity in our region and schools. We began by establishing our vision for high-quality science instruction and norming our culture around science as a regional Team and Family.
In our region, we define “STEM” as referring to the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering (including Computer Science) and Maker labs. It is the term we broadly use to define courses related to these areas. Science and Design/Computer Science/Engineering (DCE) are two subject areas that together create our full vision of STEM. Courses such as iLab, Robotics, and MakerSpaces are, therefore, names of courses that can serve as DCE-aligned offerings.
