Parent/Teacher communication is the most important part of helping your child have a successful year in first grade! Your child will have a "Take Home Binder" for completed papers, homework, and notes. This binder should be checked and returned daily. Please establish a routine of checking this binder each night with your child.
If sending in money, please seal in envelope with your child's name written on it. Any changes to your child's transportation plan needs to be done by either calling the main office or sending a note indicating the transportation change, date, and name of your child. Please do not send a message through Seesaw or email as I may not see it in time.
Recess and Lunch will be from 11:35-12:10.
Students should be able to open everything on their own and complete eating within 15 minutes. Practicing at home will help make your student's lunch time run smooth.
All lunch related information can be found here (click the hyperlink). This includes the lunch menu, nutritional information, and payment information.
Lunch (includes milk): Free
Milk only: Free
1st grade students will have a daily snack. Please ensure that it is healthy and can be eaten quickly.
Suggestions include: fruit, vegetables, breakfast bars, fruit snacks, granola bars, meat sticks, etc. They should NOT include chips, Hostess cakes, cookies, etc.
Healthy snacks will help to satisfy hunger between the school day and lunch and boost your child's energy.
Please ensure that your child has a leak proof water bottle . Our school changed out all drinking fountains for bottle refilling stations.
1st grade students will learn 220 Dolch words this year. We will divide them into 2 groups: phonetically decodable and those with irregular spellings. Words that are decodable are also known as “Flash Words” because they are regularly spelled and students should be able to read and spell them (ex: can). Words with irregular spellings are known as "Heart Words" because some part of the word will need to be learned by heart (ex: said).
MORE INFORMATION about Heart Words can be found HERE (click the hyperlink).
We have an amazing PTO who work hard to create a fun filled year for our students. Please follow them on Facebook or look at their website (www.roscoepto.com) to stay up to date on what's planned.
All PTO meetings will start at 6:30 and will be located in the Ledgewood library. Kids are welcome!
The 1st Friday of every month is a Spirit Day! The classroom with the highest percentage dressed in Braves gear or color will receive the school spirit stick that month!

Students love to celebrate their birthday at school! Our class will gladly celebrate each child's birthday including those that take place over the Summer. Here are a few guidelines to consider when planning your child's birthday celebration: 1) Treats must be store bought but do not need to be individually packaged. We would prefer a gluten free treat if possible due to allergies. 2) Please keep the treat simple and easy to clean up as there will be limited time to eat. Bakery cupcakes and cake should be left for a home party. 3) Invitations for birthday parties can be brought to school as long as all boys, all girls, or all students are invited. Otherwise, please mail or make other arrangements to distribute the invitations. We currently have 20 students.
Please let me know if you are having any difficulty finding the items on our school supply list. The list can be found HERE (click the hyperlink).
Scholastic Book Orders will be placed every few months. If you would like to order, please visit our class page HERE. You will have access to all flyers (see top left corner of website) and select books that will best fit your child's needs.
