At King's we offer two streams for studying Science at GCSE level.
The first is GCSE Combined Science, a double award GCSE course that covers Biology, Physics and Chemistry. The majority of students take Combined Science. At the end of this course, students take six exams (two for each part of science, which are each 60 marks and 70 minutes), the results for which are combined, and students are awarded two GCSE grades, such as 7-6 or 8-8.
The second stream is Triple Science, sometimes referred to as "Separate Sciences" as students study for three separate qualifications: GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. Students who choose this route need to be passionate about science, as this takes up a GCSE option block to allow for an extra lesson of teaching for each subject to cover the higher quantity and level of knowledge in these courses. At the end of this course, students take two exams for each subject (for a total of six), which are each 100 marks and 1 hour 45 minutes. From this students are awarded three GCSE grades.
