science - really wild learning
On Friday, Year 6 were visited by Kim from Really Wild Learning. This visit formed part of our Science learning on Living Things and their Habitats. The children were introduced to a variety of animals and learn all about their scientific classification and adaptations. They had the opportunity to hold the different animals. The children had a fantastic morning and it was great to see some of the children overcoming their fears. A big thank you to Kim for visiting Kingsacre!
science - classifying mosses and lichens
In science, we have been learning about classification. The children used identification charts to be able to identify and classify mosses and lichens in the school grounds. After, we used magnifying glasses, hand-held microscopes and cameras linked to a computer to be able to view these closer.
art - screen printing
We have used the stencils we created in our last lesson to produce our screen prints. The children worked collaborativley, using the silk screens and bright inks to complete their final compositions. Some children experimented with colour-mixing to create their desired design. They were able to see how successful their stencils were, whether they were idnetical and whether they aligned as intended.
safer internet day 2026
As part of Safer Internet Day 2026, the children discussed the uses of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and whether it was okay or not okay to use AI for specific scenarios. The children identified that some scenarios did not fall into these two categories and that sometimes we need more information to make an informed decision.
children's mental health week
This year's theme for Children's Mental Health Week focused on 'Belonging'. As part of this, each child made a mosaic tile showing their hobbies and interests. These have been combined to make a whole-class display showing how we belong to the class.
computing - data packets
In computing, our learning focus has been Information Technology. We begun this learning by focusing on computer networks and systems. The children learnt that information is transferred across the internet using data packets. They came up with their own messages to share with another member of the class and were required to number their data packets so that the recevier could peice the message back together.
ART - SCREEN PRINT STENCIL MAKING
In art, we have continued our learning about screen printing and have been creating our own stencils. We drew out fianl design onto card before using tracing paper to create identical stencils. We then used craft knives and cutting boards to cut out differnet parts of each stencil as this will allow us to create a layered screen print.
PE-GYMNASTICS
In this week's Gymnastics session, we enjoyed focusing on exploring balances involving counter balance and counter tension.
Counter balance is any balance where a person uses another person's weight to stay balanced by pushing against them.
Counter tension is any balance where a person uses another person's weight to stay balanced by pulling away from them.
english - our own hybrid animals
In English, we have been using the book Animalium as our key text. We have explore the type of writing within the book and thought about the type of texts that we could create. We have designed our own hybrid animals (with up to three creatures) and are going to write our own information texts in the style of Animalium next week. We also used technology to help us turn our drawings into realistic water-colour illustrations.
maths - understanding the properties of 3d shapes
In maths, we have been looking at the properties of 3D shapes. We use the polydron to build our own 3D shapes and then idnetified their properties, including the number of edges, faces and vertices.
Art - screen printing
Last week, we started our unit in Art on screen printing. We began by looking at the works of Andy Warhol and the Pop Art style. This week, we completed our initial designs and looked at what we could screen print. We used the theme of animals as our inspiration.
MaTHS - Classifying shapes
In maths, we have have started our unit on geometry, focusing on the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We began by looking at a variety of shapes and sorting these using a Venn diagram. The children set their own sorting criteria, including angles, symmetry and parallel & perpendicular lines.
PE - badminton
In PE, we have started our unit in badminton by focusing on how to complete an underarm return shot. We learnt about the correct stance and racket grip and worked on developing our hand-eye coordination to hit the shuttlecock.
PE - gymnastics
In gymnastics, we have started our unit by starting to think about different types of roll. We learnt forward rolls and straddles focusing on correct technique and tension.
