Fossil Making
After learning about fossils and how they are made over millions of years, visting Lyme Regis to find our own and learning and identifying different fossils we completed our work by making our own. Using the same principle of an animal making an impression in soil that forms a mould, we pressed a toy turtle into clay and then filled the mould with Plaster of Paris. They were delighted with the finished results!
Classroom Displays
For those of you who are unable to get into the classroom here are 4 of our displays. Hopefully they give you an idea about your child's learning environment.
Our work on The Stone Age with books and artefacts for them to access.
Celebrating some of our art work.
A Science display based on our work with fossils, with some photographs of our visit to Lyme Regis.
Our Science table that constantly changes. The books on this table are often their favourites!
Musical Talent
Last week week we celebrated the sporting success of our girls' football team. This week we are celebrating their musical talents. Some children take weekly piano lessons, others guitar lessons and some are members of the school choir or attend the music club. If anyone else is interested in their children joining in with any of these groups please ask for details.Â
Well done to all the children involved.
Girls Football Tournament
This week Year 3 were extremely proud of 6 of our girls that represented Kingsacre in the football tournament hosted on our school field. Competing were teams from Kingsacre, Caen, Southmead, Georgeham and Marwood. Our girls played in the Year 3/4 age group and were split across 2 teams. They both did exceptionally well but unfortunately had to play each other in the semi-finals! We ended up with a first and a third place which was fantastic and the girls were very proud of their medals. Most of the girls are new to football and so we really look forward to seeing them develop over the coming year.
Cave Paintings
As part of our learning about the Stone Age we have studied the importance of cave paintings. The school resource cupboard was turned into a cave for the afternoon and the children had fun decorating it with their own cave paintings. The most exciting part was going in with the lights off and exploring it with their flickering flame, just like it would have been!

Fossil Hunting at Lyme Regis
One of the favourite things we have been learning about in Science is fossils and the famous Palaeontologist Mary Anning. This learning was bought to life when we visited Lyme Regis. We were very lucky to have a Palaeontologist show us around the Museum which is built on the exact site of Mary Anning's house. He then taught the children how to find fossils. They listened to him so well that we set off to the beach they had considerable success, which they found very exciting. I on the other hand did not have their ability!
