Our Take 10 in the first half of Autumn Term is Running. Take 10 is our daily activity to get us moving, improving our health and well being.
Reception Introduction to PE Unit 1 and 2
In this first half term, children in EYFS will focus on key fundamental skills such as running, hopping, skipping, balancing, crawling as well as catching and throwing. In P.E lessons they will share, communicate, work safely, co-operate and develop leadership. Children develop independence, perseverance and confidence.
Class 1 Fundamentals and Ball Skills
Class 1 learn the fundamental skills of balancing, running, changing direction, jumping, hopping and skipping. They will identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. Children will work collaboratively with others, taking turns and sharing ideas.
In Ball Skills, class 1 will develop their fundamental ball skills such as throwing and catching, rolling and dribbling with both hands and feet. They will look to increase control and accuracy using co-ordination and balance, working independently a well as in pairs and small groups.
Class 2 Fundamentals and Ball Skills
Class 2 will build further on the fundamental skills of balancing, running, changing direction, jumping, hopping and skipping. They will observe and recognise improvements of their own and others and identify areas of strength. Children will continue to develop balance, agility and co-ordination.
In Ball Skills, class 2 will develop their fundamental ball skills such as throwing and catching, rolling, hitting a target, dribbling with both hands and feet and kicking. These skills will be performed with increasing control and accuracy, using their co-ordination and balance.
Class 3 Fundamentals and Ball Skills
In Fundamentals skills of balancing, running, jumping, hopping and skipping will continue to be developed. Children will develop their ability to change direction with balance and control. They will explore moving at different speeds as well as how to accelerate and decelerate. They will develop flexibility, strength, control and balance.
In Ball Skills, class 3 will use a variety of ball skills. They will tracking a ball when dribbling with their hands and feet and when throwing, catching and kicking. Children will learn to combine their moves and use them within competitive games, becoming skillful attackers and defenders.
Class 4 Fundamentals and Ball Skills
In Fundamentals skills of balancing, running, jumping, hopping and skipping will continue to be developed. Children will develop their ability to change direction with balance and control. They will explore moving at different speeds as well as how to accelerate and decelerate. They will develop flexibility, strength, control and balance.
In Ball Skills, class 3 will use a variety of ball skills. They will develop accuracy and consistency when tracking a ball, explore a variety of throwing techniques and choose the most appropriate throw for the situation. Children will catching and throwing with one and two hands and build upon understanding of playing competitive games and the role of attackers and defenders.
Class 5 Fitness and Netball
In Fitness, Class 5 will explore a range of activities which develop their strength, stamina, speed, co-ordination, agility and balance. They will apply this fitness in small games and targeted exercises. Children will continue to develop their flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance.
In Netball, Class 5 will play invasion games and work on their understanding of attacking and defensive principles. They will develop their understadning of fair play, tactics and strategies. Children will use their command of the physical skills of jumping, running, throwing and catching, changing direction and speed and balance during games.
Class 6 Fitness and Tag Rugby
In Fitness, Class 6 will explore a range of activities which develop their health and fitness. They will develop their strength, stamina, balance, agility and co-ordination. They will work on their personal fitness levels and persevering when they find an activity challenging.
Class 6 will continue to develop their understanding of the principles of attacking and defending of invasion games through rugby. They will use skills, strategies and tactics to outwit the opposition. Children will play fairly, learn rules and take part in competitive games.
