Learning languages allows you to:
Meet people from different countries and find out more about them
Learn many skills which are useful in a wide range of careers, such as the ability to communicate clearly, be confident about speaking in public, use problem solving strategies and write coherently
Add an international dimension to your choice of GCSE subjects, which is something many employers and higher education providers want
Have greater opportunities to work and/or study abroad, or work for companies in the UK with international links
Discuss your interests, ideas and opinions with other people who speak the language
Learn more about countries where the language is spoken, and the people who speak it
Who will teach me GCSE French or Spanish?
We aim not to share classes and you will be taught by the same teacher in both Year 10 and Year 11. This will provide you with a consistent and familiar approach throughout your GCSE course.
Will I be set in Languages?
No, we believe that mixed-ability teaching provides all learners with the best possible outcomes. Classes will be taught in mixed-ability with resources and activities being differentiated and pitched at the needs of all students. We believe in setting challenging tasks that stretch all students regardless of ability.
What specification do we follow in Languages?
We follow the Pearson Edexcel GCSE 9-1 French and Spanish courses.

Will we be able to visit France or Spain as part of the GCSE course?
There is nothing more valuable than experiencing the culture of a foreign country first hand and as soon as we are able to explore this option safely you will absolutely spend some time in France or Spain. However, until it is possible to do so, we will be using lots of different mediums in lessons that will allow you to experience the rich culture of these countries as fully as possible.
How will I be assessed?
