Where can Maths take me?
Strong results in Maths can open doors to several A-level, BTEC and vocational courses. Your school or college will also have a minimum requirement for you to enter their sixth form and it is important that you have achieved a 'standard pass' (Grade 4) or even better a 'strong pass' (Grade 5) and beyond. Some subjects will require a minimum grade in Maths to be allowed on to the course so it is important that you spend time ensuring your Maths result is the best it can be so that you can access the course you want for further study.
Further study of Maths at A-Level and beyond can lead to many further education or career opportunities as Maths contains several marketable skills. For example:
We will use our internal continuous monitoring and data from KS3 into KS4 to ensure that your son/daughter is entered into the correct tier for them.
Are there recommended practice books that I we should buy?
Maths revision books are available from a number of publishers, the key to making a decision on which practice book to buy would be a guide that when your son/daughter uses it, their modelling and examples are clear and coherent to them.
What equipment will I need to be successful?
All equipment students will be using from KS3 to ensure that they are familiar with them.
Scientific calculator
Compass
Ruler
Protractor
How can I revise for Maths?
The only way to revise Maths is to do Maths. You will do much better spending 20 minutes doing Maths questions than spending two hours just reading a textbook. The more questions you do yourself, the more you will get right, the higher your confidence will be, the more you will enjoy your revision, and the better you will do in the exam.
