Exam season can be a perplexing time for parents/carers whowant to support their child(ren) but can sometimes feel at a loss as to what to do. 

We have put together some additional resources that may support you in supporting your child(ren) in preparing for and succeeding in their exams.

Supporting Revision

The best way to support your child(ren) is to remove all distractions. Silence can be a difficult thing to handle and lots of children (and adults) struggle with this. When students are completing their examinations, they are sat in silence for an extended period of time and they need to deal with all the information whizzing through their head, with the stress of the exams which can be extremely tough. We are fortunate that we have had some practice in school with the PPEs however, we do not need to stop there...

Remove all distractions

1. Music - students remember less when they revise listening to music (upto 71% less than revision in silence). In the study there was no difference between listening to current music or classical music, both had the same impact on their memory.

2. Phones - It is difficult to maintain concentration when a phone is there to distract you. 

I would also recommend that revision is passive, try to get your child(ren) to not just read their notes/watch a video get them to recall this information afterwards. A great question to ask them after a revision session is:

Tell me 5 things that you have covered in your revision?

Then you can ask them to explain further, it is at this point my parents would glaze over but by forcing me to recall the information it helped me to remember more.

Resources already available to your child(ren)

We have already collated lots of resources for your child(ren) to support them with their revision. Some key resources are:

1. Exam Rules and Regulations - In this section we have collated all of the exam rules and regulations as well as provided students with a video going through all of these.

2. Exam Timetables - Here are details of all of the examinations in this season. If you scroll to the bottom you will see a calendar and if you move to May/June you will see all of the exams ready for them (or you) to add to a calendar so they can have a digital copy of their exam timetable too.

3. Revision Rota - Here we have collated all of the details of which revision sessions are happening each day after school. If there are details missing please contact subject teachers directly and they will be more than willing to give you more information/update the rota.

4. Revison Resources - In this sections there are pages for every subject with resources for their revision. These have been curated by subject teachers and are great for when a student feels lost with what to revise.
