Private Lessons have nothing to do with your grade in band or chorus but they have everything to do with your personal growth as a musician. The music faculty sincerely believes that every member of the program should be taking private lessons with a professional musician each week. If you are not, you are progressing at a slower rate and losing out on an opportunity to find out what your own musical potential really is. We all need to be pushed to accomplish great things, and the private lesson program can provide detailed, modeled instruction for you to improve as a musician.
Most lessons are held after school at KPHS from October - May.
The King Philip Music Association is able to subsidize the cost of lessons for families who may not be able to pay some or all of the tuition. Merit-based scholarships are also available. Any family unable to take private lessons due to financial hardship should contact Mr. Wolloff (wolloffj@kingphilip.org) for assistance.
Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,
The Music Department is again implementing an after-school lesson program for all instrumental and vocal students enrolled in King Philip performing ensembles. Please read this letter carefully and complete the form, below, by Friday, September 13, 2024.
Private Lessons are strongly encouraged for all student musicians. The lesson program is designed to offer student musicians the opportunity to study with a specialist on a one-to-one basis. This will not replace existing class lessons, but offer advanced training in technique, solo literature, and musicianship.
Our faculty all play and teach professionally throughout the Boston area. Your student will receive expert instruction on their chosen instrument.
All lessons are held after school at King Philip Regional High School. Please note that the staff is not available every day so scheduling will be done to accommodate as many students as possible.
Each student and teacher will be responsible for 28 lessons between the first week in October and the first week in May. The remainder of the year will be used for makeup lessons.
The collection of the lesson fees is coordinated by me with the assistance of the KPMA treasurer and lesson payment coordinator.
There are two payment periods, with school vacations calculated into the equation, during the course of the year. Semester 1 is from October through the end of January, and Semester 2 is from February through the first full week of May. Lessons will be billed on a semester basis however you can pay in a manner that is most convenient to you (i.e. weekly, monthly, lump sum). Payment for Semester 1, however, must be paid by the end of January. When registering it is with the understanding of committing to the full year of lessons. Lessons will begin the week of September 30th.
Semester 1 (16 Lessons) Semester 2 (12 Lessons)
Week of 9/30/24 - Week of 1/20/25 Week of 1/27/25 - Week of 4/28/25

Please do not allow financial concerns as a reason not to participate. The King Philip Music Association is available for financial assistance if needed. Any financial arrangements will be kept confidential. Please call me at my office at 508-384-1000 ext. 3426 to discuss the matter or e-mail me at wolloffj@kingphilip.org.
Previous balances from past years need to be addressed before a lesson can be scheduled for this coming year.
Thank you for your continuing support of the King Philip Regional School District Music Program.
All the best,
Joshua Wolloff
