This course is for anyone who loves Acting and Performing! If you enjoy exploring new styles, skills and techniques and have a passion for working collaboratively in a practical environment then this is the course for you.

About The Course

During this course you will investigate the creative intentions of a range of plays and musical shows, delve into the world of performing arts and learn how to devise meaningful performance pieces of your own.




Cost / Equipment:

It is expected that pupils will be suitably dressed in PA uniform (black leggings/bottoms and KES PA

top) in order to take part in practical work. There will be opportunities throughout the course to

attend professional performances and shows. Costs incurred will include travel and entrance fees.

Unit 1 - Performing

Get a taste of what it's like to be a professional musical theatre performer.

  • Explore performance styles, creative intentions and purpose.

  • Investigate how practitioners create and influence what’s performed.

  • Discover performance roles, skills, techniques and processes.

  • In this unit learners will gain a holistic knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques needed to reproduce an existing piece of professional/published work.

Students will explore a variety of plays and musicals and complete the following steps:-

  • Research and rehearsal

  • Performance

  • Review and reflect


Unit 2 - Creating

  • In this unit learners will gain, develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques needed to create and refine original work in the performing arts.


Students will take part in a variety of workshops exploring different styles, skills and techniques to help complete the following steps:-


  • Explore and develop

  • Applying knowledge and skills to create original work

  • Review, reflect and refine.

Unit 3 - Performing Arts in Practice

  • This unit introduces learners to areas of the performing arts that need to be considered when responding to an industry commission.


Students will need to draw on their knowledge of the skills and techniques needed to reproduce an existing piece of professional/published work from Unit 1 alongside their knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques needed to create and refine original work from Unit 2 to complete the following steps:-


  • Planning performance work

  • Promoting and pitching

  • Evaluating and reflecting

Unit 1: Performing Controlled assessment:

10 hours

30% of the course


Unit 2: Creating Controlled assessment:

10 hours

30% of the course


Unit 3: Performing Arts in Practice External controlled assessment:

20 hours

40% of the course
