Post 16 options
Kent Choices Post 16 options information.
If your child is in Year 9 - Year 11, then it would be worth watching the information video to the left.
It is from a website called Kent Choices and this is the platform that most schools will use to assist their students in appling for their post-16 options. There is a wealth of information on this site and it is important to know that the school will issue a login for your student.
Our next cohort will apply earlier than previous years and we will start this process with our Year 10's in term 6.
School opportunities
At King Ethelbert School we offer a range of educational and career related support for your child. All students in Y9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are offered independent careers advice, we host many exciting career events and have external speakers in to talk about career pathways as well as inspiring presentations from our ex-students and the local community - see our 'Careers Strategy' for more detail of what is offered at each key stage.
Parents and carers support
So what can you do to support your child with their future plans and career aspirations?
Active Listening: Take some time to understand your child's passions, interests, and strengths. Ask open-ended questions and listen without judgment to what excites them.
Encourage Exploration: Allow your child to explore different fields and activities to see what truly sparks their interest. This could be through extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, or hobbies.
Research Career Paths: Help them research potential careers, industries, educational requirements, and job prospects. Use online resources, meet professionals in different fields, or attend career fairs together.
Provide Connections: If possible, introduce them to people in fields they’re interested in. Networking can be an invaluable way to get first-hand insight into a career.
Application support: If your child is in Year 10 (term 6) or Year 11, assist your child with their application by helping them complete their Kent Choices application. All students in these years will be provided with a login and would benefit from their parent/carers checking the different sections of their application. Further support for this area can be given by tutors, our independent career advisor ~ Anne Cameron, or Mrs Biggs (Career Leader).
The following sites may also offer support.

Talking Futures is a really useful resource created to help parents/carers to have informed and constructive conversations with their children about the different training and education resources available to them.

This website is aimed at 16–19-year-olds to explain the different pathways available to them. The link is useful for both students and parents/carers.
We would really appreciate hearing from you about what you think of our careers programme at King Ethelbert School. Please feel free to complete the following quick Google form at your earliest convenience.

Would you like to contribute to our careers programme?
We are always looking for parents/carers, family and friends or members of our local community to contribute to our careers programme. This could be offering work experience placements, running a small workshop for selected students or talking to our students about your own career journey and experiences in the workplace. Is there an opportunity for us to bring some students to you? If you want to take part but are unable to do so in person than a recorded video or written information about the organisation you work at could be useful - every little helps!!!!
