Our current Year 7 students have made an excellent start to their school career at Handsworth.
Our First Week in Year 7
Going into year seven felt like a big step for me. At first I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by emotions but once I entered the school I realised there are so many things about KEVIHS that make you feel welcome. As soon as I stepped into the reception area I was greeted by Miss Collins’ warm smile. I knew who Miss Collins was because I had seen her in the induction videos during the transition week.
The transition week was very informative for new students and parents and was designed to help us learn more about the school, so we would feel comfortable when we started school. So, I felt prepared and was already familiar with some of the staff before I started year 7.
So going back to my first day; I saw Miss Collins at the door and felt at ease as I knew she was our Pastoral Leader and would look after us. She told me where my form class was and so I made my way there. I was welcomed by my form tutor who told me where my seat was; I already knew lots about my form tutor too because he had made a funny video for us for the transition week. I made friends with the students next to me and we created our Form board. We did some activities were we got to know each other and I realised that day 1 was actually quite fun.
A few days on and I have made lots of friends already and met most of my teachers. I feel at ease at KEVIHS and am enjoying the lessons and have already learnt a lot of facts. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the academic year.
