Computer Applications

Introduction

We have lots of exciting things planned for Computer Applications! As fifth and sixth graders, we focus on using our school Google accounts to create and collaborate with our peers. We use the internet as a tool for research, learning how to strategize during our search and evaluate the websites we find. We discuss extensively about what it means to be safe online, and how to create and protect a positive digital reputation. Lastly, all fifth and sixth graders complete a Computer Science unit, learning the fundamentals of Computer Science and basic coding skills. Be sure to ask your student what they have learned! They are excited to share their new knowledge!

As we create, collaborate, and research, we will also be practicing good keyboarding techniques and posture. Students practice keyboarding for the first 15 minutes of class as a supplement to our regular Computer Applications activities. We complete a monthly timed lesson and rubric to evaluate our improvement and effort throughout the semester.

During each of these units, we utilize some really cool new Web 3.0 tools for sharing our thoughts and reflections. After all, technology is all about working together, right!?
