Culture
"Once you understand and appreciate other people's cultural backgrounds, then you can also connect with them more"
Now that we know a little about each other, let's talk about languages
How many languages are commonly spoken in your country? What are they?
How many languages can you speak?
Can you say anything in my country's language?
How do I say "hello" in your language?
Language activity
Finally, let us now try and teach others some common phrases in our native language
In your group, make a list of 5 common sentences in English. (Good morning. What's your name? etc.) Then teach your group members how to say those sentences in your native language.
Example -
English - Good morning - Japanese = Ohayo gozaimasu.
English - I love you - Ukranian - Ya tebe lyublyu
Challenge: Try to teach your group some of the slang words used by young people in your country.
Before we finish: Show and tell!
In your group check online to find an object or landmark that represents your culture or your city.
For example: I am from a city called Newcastle in England and I will choose the Angel of the North Statue.
This was designed in 1998 and represents the move from heavy industry into the information age.
