Academic and Career Planning

Background Information

In 2013, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction signed Wisconsin Statute 115.28(59), which requires all Wisconsin Public Schools to implement academic and career planning beginning at the start of the 2017-2018 school year in grades 6 to 12. "Academic and Career Planning, or ACP, is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills."

Post-Secondary Planning

Xello

Xello is a tool that is provided to our school district by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. It is an online tool that allows students to explore careers, plan for life after high school, and create a working portfolio.

Students in grades 6-12 will use Xello, as a self-exploration and planning program, for their career and postsecondary education exploration as well as to house their online portfolio (Middle School & High School).

What is Xello?

Xello is an engaging online program that helps students build the skills, knowledge and plans to be future ready. The program uses an investigation, discovery-based learning process. Students better understand themselves, their future career options, and the 21st century skills they'll need to succeed.

4 Stages to A Successful ACP

1. Know - Who am I?  Get to know your interests, skills, and strengths.

2. Explore - Where do I want to go?  Explore career pathways and education opportunities.

3. Plan - How do I get there?  Set your route!  Set goals, choose courses, join clubs and activities, obtain financing, fill out applications, write resumes.

4. Go! - Recalculate as needed.
