Steps to Connect Naviance and Common App- Create Your Accounts: Log in to your Naviance account ( School email---Waffle---scroll down--- Student Naviance) and ensure you have created a separate Common App account on commonapp.org.
- Add a College in Common App: In your Common App account, add at least one college to your list.
- Complete the FERPA Waiver: In the Common App, go to the "My Colleges" tab, select a college, and navigate to the "Recommenders and FERPA" section. Sign and date the authorization to waive your right to see your recommendations and documents, then click "Save and Close".
- Match Accounts in Naviance: Return to Naviance and go to the "Colleges" tab, then click on "Colleges I'm Applying To".
- Initiate the Match: You will see a RED banner or button labeled "Match Accounts" at the top of the page. Click it.
- Log in to Common App: A new tab will open, prompting you to log in to your Common App account with the email and password you created.
- Confirm the Connection: Agree to the authorization to connect the two systems and click "Connect".
- Verify the Match: You will be redirected back to Naviance, and the pink banner will be replaced by a confirmation indicating that your accounts are matched.
HOW TO REQUEST A RECOMMENDER FOR A COLLEGE APPLICATION?- Ask in Person: Before using Naviance, you should always ask your teacher in person if they are willing to write a letter of recommendation for you.
- Gather Information: Provide your teacher with supporting materials like a resume, a brag sheet, and any other relevant information to help them write a detailed letter.
- Log in to Naviance: Go to your school's specific Naviance Student login page.
- Navigate to Letters of Recommendation: Click on the "Colleges" tab in the top right corner.
- Find the Letters of Recommendation link: Select the option for "Apply to College" and then choose "Letters of Recommendation" from the dropdown menu.
- Add a Request: Click on the teal "Add Request" button.
- Select a Teacher: Choose your teacher from the dropdown list of available faculty. If your teacher isn't on the list, you will have to request them as a recommender via Common App.
- Specify Colleges: Select the colleges you want the letter sent to. You can choose to send it to all of them or select specific ones.
- Add a Personal Note: Use the "Personal Note to Teacher" box to include any details you want the teacher to mention or to reiterate the earliest deadline. This is a great place to include your "resume". Let teachers know about sports you play, positions held, if you have a job, volunteerism and community service.
- Submit Your Request: Click "Submit Request" to finalize the process. A green status bar will appear at the top of the page to confirm the request has been sent.
