This is about how the Boston closure affected the colonist and how this rule made the colonist feel. This started because King George wouldn’t let ships come and go from Boston Harbor, and so the colonists started starving since food deliveries had to stop. When they didn’t have that much food, then most people started to protest. But other colonists stepped in to help the Bostonians by bringing them food, clothing and flocks of sheep, but then the British completely closed Boston Harbor.
After that the colonists had a meeting which was the First Continental Congress meeting. George Washington and delegates from all 13 colonies made up the First Continental Congress. They told King George that they wanted peace, but that the colonists wouldn’t trade goods with the British anymore until they got rid of the unfair taxes.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord was a battle where the British tried to capture the American’s rebel leaders. They also tried to steal the rebel’s supply of weapons and ammunition. Hundreds of soldiers from the British gathered on April 18, 1775 to capture the rebel leaders. The next day, a fight broke out between the rebels and British. 73 people died in the fight, and 174 people got wounded. This signaled the start of the American Revolutionary War.
The Declaration of Independence was a signed document that helped the 13 colonies earn their freedom. They were complaining about the unfair laws that were passed by Great Britain. The colonists made a list of complaints in the Declaration of Independence, to express their thoughts and opinions. The authors were Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman, and Benjamin Franklin. All of them were patriots which meant that they didn’t support their english king and wanted to be free and independent. In the end, delegates and George Washington won; they got their wish and formed the United States of America. Independence day is the day that the colonists earned their freedom.
In this paragraph, you will learn about the Continental army and the British army. You will see how they fought, what each side predicted, or thought, how motivated they were, and what their plans to win were. First, the Continental army was a lot more motivated to win the war, but had less training. The British were LESS motivated, they were more trained, and maybe better fighters. They were more used to fighting than the Continental army. Then, the British really thought the Continental army had no chance at winning. In the beginning, the British were winning almost all the fights, the Continental army had a big comeback, and won the war! William Pitt from George vs. George said, “You can not conquer the Americans …. You have been three years teaching them the art of war for three years, and they are apt scholars” (43). Therefore, as you can see, they both fought well, and each side has many disadvantages and advantages, but it was a good, equal fight.
The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, was a war between the British army and the American army (and some French allies) that ended up winning the new United States of America its freedom from Britain. At the beginning of the war, George Washington was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Continental army of America.
The first shot of the war was at Lexington. The British wanted to destroy the weapons that the rebels had collected, but the patriots found out. Someone fired a shot, and then the British killed 8 patriots and wounded 10.
In the Battle of Bunker Hill, the rebels had secretly built a fort, and then the British tried to take it. The rebels ended up losing the fort, but the British lost many more soldiers than the rebels did.
In the winter of 1776, the American army was sick and starving. George Washington thought he could surprise the Hessians camping nearby in Trenton. The rebel army crossed the Delaware River, surprised the Hessians, and took over 900 of them prisoner. British General Cornwallis sent 8,000 men to fight the Americans, but Washington and his army won again. These were known as the Battles of Trenton.
After several of these battles, everyone knew the Americans could win the war!
The Treaty of Paris was what officially ended the war, although when the British surrendered the British sword, the war was unofficially over. After the British sword was surrendered, there were still some small battles that happened since Great Britain’s soldiers still controlled cities like New York, Charlestown, and South Carolina. Also, there were two years of meetings that had to happen before the Treaty of Paris was signed.
The Treaty of Paris was a set of agreements. It was signed in Paris, France by Great Britain on September 3, 1783. The Treaty of Paris gave the United States a lot of land, from the east of the Mississippi River, to the South of Canada, to the north of Florida. The area that Great Britain gave America included land that Great Britain promised the American Indians.
