Hello there! I'm Mrs. Fisher, a Sculptor turned Art Educator, with the goal of inspiring and educating today's youth in all things Art... with the hope of helping students become well-rounded global citizens. Originally, I'm from Louisiana, but I've lived in a variety of places and am honored to have settled here in LaGrange, Ohio. After finishing studies at Cleveland State University in Art Ed & Post Baccalaureate Glass Studies at the Cleveland Institute of Art, I was able to jump head first into my passion of teaching. For about 10 years you could have found me as the k-5 Visual Arts Instructor at Keystone Elementary School, but now I'm in year 2 of my next adventure: MIDDLE SCHOOL! My Middle Artists often ask me why I made the jump to Mr. Pheeny follow them up the ladder, and although there's a variety of reasons, I do have a top two. 1. I get to see my artists every day for an entire semester, allowing me the opportunity to truly push them to grow and to crack out some bigger, more in-depth projects. 2 Most importantly to me- the psychological development! Did you know that the majority of adults that you meet that hate art can trace it back to a Middle School teacher!?! While still in college I learned that developmentally speaking, it is in the Middle School age range that we internally decide whether or not we will value Art in our adulthood...not whether or not we'll create Art or become Artists, but whether or not we'll find value in Art in general! It's been my goal to get to a Middle School position since learning this information, because how better to influence our future generations! Not only that, but Middle School is so incredibly awkward and there are SO many changes as our kids develop - a lot of us needed a healthy outlet at that age, myself included. It is my honor to be a part of our kids' journeys as they work their way through this stage.
As always, each lesson corresponds to State and National Art Standards; some I've written and some I've adapted from others, so feel free to use them in your own Art Room or at home! I LOVE getting feedback on projects, so let me know your thoughts or what you did differently. Enjoy!
